Sunway Medical Centre Damansara Kickstarts First Anniversary Celebrations with ‘Feel the Beat of Health’ Community Heart Health Campaign in partnership with Viatris Malaysia

October 29, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

Sunway Medical Centre Damansara (SMCD) begins celebrations for its first anniversary with a heartfelt community initiative, “Feel the Beat of Health”, a five-day campaign dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular health and empowering Malaysians with the tools for early detection.

Along with partner Viatris Malaysia, the event will take place at the Starling Mall, Level G from 29 October to 2 November 2025, featuring complimentary ECG screenings and consultations with experienced specialists, alongside interactive educational exhibits designed to empower Malaysians to take charge of their heart health.

According to the Ministry of Health, cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death in Malaysia, accounting for nearly 23% of all deaths in the country annually. Alarmingly, one in four CVD cases now involves individuals under 50 years old, highlighting the urgent need for accessible preventive care. The campaign aims to encourage early detection through accessible screening for all Malaysians, underscoring SMCD’s commitment to community wellness as the hospital enters its second year of operation.

“As we approach our first anniversary, we are incredibly grateful for the trust our community has placed in us. The ‘Feel the Beat of Health’ campaign is our way of advocating preventive wellness — nurturing a culture of health and proactive care within our community,” says Jasmine Lau Mooi Hun, Chief Executive Officer of SMCD.

“We at SMCD have always championed accessible, world-class healthcare while actively promoting wellness and prevention. Heart disease remains one of Malaysia’s most pressing health challenges, yet many cases can be prevented through early detection. Through this initiative, we hope to empower Malaysians with the knowledge and tools to protect their heart health. I am immensely grateful to our dedicated team for working tirelessly to provide excellent, patient-focused medical care and a healthier future for everyone we serve.”

‘Feel the Beat of Health’ with Complimentary ECG and Health Screenings

From 29 October to 2 November 2025, SMCD will be offering complimentary electrocardiogram (ECG) tests to members of the public, accompanied by consultations with experienced cardiologists and healthcare specialists.

An ECG is a simple, non-invasive test that can detect irregular heart rhythms, signs of previous heart attacks, inadequate blood flow, and other cardiac abnormalities -providing critical insights that can prevent life-threatening complications.

Members of the public can secure their free ECG screening by registering through an online form HERE, and attending the event on their selected day.

In addition to ECG testing, visitors can also receive complimentary health screenings that encompass blood pressure monitoring, glucose testing, uric acid testing, cholesterol testing, as well as audio and visual tests.

Four experienced specialists from SMCD will be available for on-site consultations:

• Dr. Ida Ilyani Binti Adam, Consultant Endocrinologist and Physician (30 October and 1 November, 2pm–4pm)

• Dr. Choy Chun Ngok, Consultant Electrophysiologist and Cardiologist (1 November 2pm-4pm)

• Ms. Saw Bee Suan, Lead Dietitian, Body Composition Analysis Pharmalysia (1 November (3pm-10pm) and 2 November (10am–10pm))

• Dato’ Dr. Yap Lok Bin, Consultant Cardiologist (2 November, 2–4pm)

At the centre of the event is the Mega “Jantungku” Walkthrough Exhibit, an immersive educational experience designed to help visitors understand first-hand how the heart functions and the importance of keeping one’s heart in good shape.

The interactive exhibit will be complemented by a series of other exciting activities throughout the event run, including a DIY Stethoscope Workshop, a Meet-and-Greet with Elfy, the SMCD Mascot.

SMCD invites all Malaysians to be part of this event and take charge of their cardiovascular health. Early detection saves lives, and your heart deserves the best care possible.
