HONG KONG’S MOST POPULAR NOODLE, TAMJAI MIXIAN, ANNOUNCES OPENING OF ITS FIRST MALAYSIA OUTLET ON 29 JULY 2025

July 14, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

TamJai Mixian [T-Ahm-J-eye. Mee-shee-en], Hong Kong’s #1 Mixian brand that have grown into a global favourite with over 240 outlets across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, and Australia, is making its Malaysian debut with the launch of its first outlet at Sunway Pyramid on 29 July 2025. This highly anticipated entry into Malaysia is made possible through an exclusive partnership with Hextar Retail Berhad, a public-listed company under the Hextar Group, which holds the exclusive rights to operate TamJai Mixian across Malaysia.

Since opening in 1996, TamJai had redefined the fast casual food landscape through its flagship brands: TamJai Yunan Mixian and TamJai SamGor Mixian. Winning over the hearts and taste buds of Hong Kongers with its signature Mixian — authentic rice noodles made purely from rice and water, delivering a gluten-free yet perfectly al dente bite. The brand’s hallmark lies in its original soup creation, meticulously crafted with aromatic broth and balanced sauces, followed by an array of toppings including fresh meat, seafood and vegetables, all customizable with 10 spice levels—from non-spicy to “Hell Fire”.

“We are excited to bring TamJai Mixian to Malaysia as part of our broader strategy to grow our footprint in Southeast Asia,” said Mr. Daren Lau, Chairman and CEO of Tam Jai International. “Malaysia represents a dynamic and diverse market with strong growth potential, and we are confident that our proven brand concept will resonate well with local consumers.” Hextar Retail Berhad, which has expanded rapidly into the food and beverage segment in recent years, views the collaboration as a significant addition to its growing lifestyle portfolio.

Dato Eddie Ong, Major Shareholder of Hextar Retail Berhad, commented, “We are truly excited to introduce TamJai Mixian’s bold and flavourful offerings to Malaysian diners. The menu is unlike anything currently available in our market—deeply rooted in Hong Kong street food culture yet thoughtfully modern in its execution. This partnership reflects our ambition to reshape the local F&B landscape by bringing in brands that are not only globally successful but also culturally rich. We believe TamJai Mixian will spark new culinary curiosity and offer Malaysians a taste of Hong Kong in a way they’ve never experienced before.”

A Taste of Hong Kong

The Sunway Pyramid outlet will showcase TamJai Mixian’s signature menu, alongside localised options tailored for Malaysian palates. Highlights include the TamJai Supreme Mixian, a cult-favourite bowl with 15 toppings; the trademarked TuFei™ Chicken Wingettes, freshly made and coated in a secret spice blend; and the Century Egg with Garlic & Chilli, a rich appetiser inspired by a 500-year-old recipe. Other favourites include Sliced Pork Belly with Mashed Garlic, served with homemade sauce, and the refreshing Hong Kong-style Lemon Tea, the perfect pairing for spicy broths.

To help diners customise their ideal bowl, the outlet will also feature an interactive soup-tasting counter—a unique experience that lets guests sample the brand’s signature broths and discover their perfect flavour match before ordering.

Opening Perks – Celebrity Appearance and Exclusive Gift Sets

To mark this momentous launch, TamJai Mixian is proud to welcome Hong Kong’s beloved celebrity couple, Grace Chan and Kevin Cheng, the couple will be making an exclusive appearance on 29 July to meet fans and celebrate the brand’s Asia debut in Malaysia. Become a TamJai Member to redeem Limited Edition TamJai Mixian merchandise with a minimum spend of RM60, and the first 20 customers who spend will get a full gift set of the exclusive merchandise, making this grand opening celebration one fans and food lovers won’t want to miss.

Eric Vo Nghia Huu, Managing Director of Hextar Retail Berhad, said, “At Hextar Retail, we are always looking to introduce fresh, high-potential concepts that align with evolving consumer tastes. TamJai Mixian brings a proven brand with deep cultural relevance and a distinctive product offering to our portfolio. We are confident that its customisable mixian, unique flavour profiles, and modern casual dining experience will resonate strongly with the Malaysian market. This marks an exciting step forward in our mission to redefine urban dining in Malaysia.”

The Sunway Pyramid outlet will serve as the foundation for a broader rollout across Malaysia, with additional locations planned in the coming years. The brand aims to offer Malaysian diners an authentic and customizable mixian experience, staying true to its original concept while adapting to the local taste.
