Samsung Invests in Malaysia’s Future Workforce With New Education Partnership

December 10, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

Samsung Malaysia Electronics has partnered with the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) to launch a collaboration program that will transform higher education and skills development in Malaysia. This initiative, in collaboration with Polytechnic Ungku Omar (PUO) in Ipoh, aims to integrate Samsung’s cutting-edge technical expertise and knowledge into the education syllabus, addressing critical industry needs and empowering graduates with the skills required for success.

“This collaboration between Samsung, MOHE, and PUO is a testament to our shared commitment to fostering a competent and skilled workforce that will drive Malaysia’s technological advancement and economic growth,” said Denny Kim, President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics. “By equipping our graduates with industry-relevant skills, we are ensuring that they are well-prepared to meet the demands of the future workforce.”

The collaboration program is driven by four key objectives:

• Fostering Business Opportunities: To establish strong business synergies between Samsung and MOHE, paving the way for future collaborations and partnerships.

• Nurturing Skilled Graduates: To address the growing demand for skilled graduates in the after-sales service sector, equipping them with the necessary competencies to excel in the industry.

• Enhancing Service Awareness and Branding: To elevate Samsung’s after-sales service reputation by producing highly trained graduates who can deliver exceptional customer experiences.

• Promoting Employment: To encourage graduates to pursue employment opportunities with Samsung further enriching their practical experience and expanding their career prospects.

The product scope and syllabus of the collaboration program will encompass Samsung’s consumer electronics products – including TVs, air conditioners, washing machines, and refrigerators. To kick-off this initiative, Samsung will provide PUO with training units, enabling hands-on learning and practical skill development for students. With the objective of achieving excellence, the Polytechnic has developed a comprehensive plan with measurable targets that will be monitored periodically throughout the period from 2023 to 2030.

The Ministry of Higher Education through the Department of Polytechnic Education and Community Colleges (JPPKK) plays a role in ensuring that the country’s workforce needs at semi-professional and mid-level executives can be met in an integrated manner according to industry requirements. This collaboration is a win-win for all parties involved – Samsung has access to a pool of skilled graduates, MOHE strengthens its commitment to providing quality education, and PUO graduates gain valuable industry experience, in addition to providing opportunities for 3,000 industrial workers to participate in reskilling and upskilling training as a starting point for learning specific fields through flexible and portable courses. This reflects a shared vision for shaping the future of Malaysia’s workforce.

The training program will commence in January 2024, marking a significant step towards enhancing the quality of higher education and empowering graduates with industry-relevant skills.
