“Santapan Petang” at Element Kuala Lumpur

April 30, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

TRACE Restaurant & Bar has once again taken a step towards celebrating Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage through its latest offering – the “Santapan Petang” Malay High Tea.  And this time, we are blessed to be able to sample the preview of the “Santapan Petang” afternoon tea where the restaurant-TRACE is overlooking a beautiful view of KL.

This exquisite high tea spread pays tribute to traditional, village-style Malay afternoon snacks, presented in a unique and elegant manner that truly captures the essence of Malay culture.

The Malay High Tea is presented in a “congkak” game board, a traditional Southeast Asian mancala board that is not only functional but also adds an element of authenticity to the dining experience. The spread begins with a trio of refreshing appetizers – Pulut Panggang, Egg Skin Popiah with Rojak Sauce, and Otak-Otak Terrine with Mango Kerabu. These appetizers set the tone for the rest of the meal, providing a burst of flavors and textures that are truly unique to the Malay cuisine.

As for the savories, we are served with the Chicken Satay Celup, Deep-fried Tiger Prawn Celup Tepung, Beef Taufu Bergedil with Chili Soy Sauce, and the highly addictive Crispy Fish Skin with Curry Salted Egg Sprinkle. The combination of flavors and textures in each dish is a testament to TRACE’s commitment to preserving the authentic flavors of Malaysian cuisine.

For those with a sweet tooth, the dessert platter will not disappoint. It includes all-time favorites such as Kuih Lapis, Kuih Tako, Kuih Bakar Kemboja, and Jackfruit Chiffon Cake, as well as lesser-known delicacies such as Tapai Pulut in Pandan Leaf, Serawa Durian with Toasted Bread, and Som Som Sweet Porridge with Gula Melaka. These desserts are a perfect way to round off the meal and are sure to satisfy even the most discerning sweet tooth.

To complete the authentic Malay experience, TRACE serves freshly brewed warung-style Teh Tarik, Malaysia’s national beverage. The tea is expertly blended with the right balance of black tea and condensed milk, providing a perfect finishing touch to this indigenous tea indulgence.

TRACE’s Santapan Petang Malay High Tea is a perfect example of how the restaurant continues to push the boundaries of traditional cuisine, creating innovative and authentic dining experiences that celebrate Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage. Whether you are a local or a visitor to Malaysia, TRACE’s Malay High Tea is an experience that should not be missed. They are  available from Monday to Friday, starting now until 30 June 2023. Priced at RM148 nett, this sharing portion is perfect for two people to enjoy a delightful afternoon tea experience.
