The Samsung Galaxy Flip 4: In depth review!

September 9, 2022 by StrawberrY Gal

The Samsung Galaxy Flip 3 had never disappoint me with its performance and here we have the Flip 4 on our hand which brings us much fun and more excitement. The phone itself comes with the beautiful exterior where now they comes up with a different colour tones and one can also customized the skin of their phone too. It’s not only a phone but is a lifestyle.

At the first glance of the phone, the Z Flip 4 amazed us not just on the exterior but is more than this.

THE DESIGN

The design of the phone is alike Flip 3 but it’s size a bit smaller than the overall though is actually weighs a few grams more comparing to Flip 3 (187g vs 183g). When it’s closed, it looks much more elegant look and the logo-engraved hinge doesn’t protrude quite as much as it did on the last model; with a folded height that’s 1.5mm shorter, thanks in part to slimmer bezels.

They are completed with the IPX8 Water Resistance where now you do not need to worry if your phone accidently drop in water.

THE SCREEN

As for the screen, they comes with the 6.7-inch Full HD+ (2640 x 1080) ‘Dynamic AMOLED 2X’ panel, which sports a pleasantly smooth 120Hz refresh rate that can scale down to 1Hz in certain situations to extend battery life.

And what make is so good is their visual quality. And comparing to many phones, we are loving how the screen is where it comes with the vivid colours and with it is flip, at it comes with unconventional 22:9 aspect ratio. The shape does require two-handed use a little more often, but it also lends itself particularly well to split-screen multitasking and enjoying ultra-widescreen gaming or video playback.

As for the screen, they come with the NEW VERSION of the Samsung’s UTG (Ultra-Thin Glass) 2.0. And for this, Samsung claims that the screen is 20% stronger than before and it is able to repel scratches with competency. And for the external cover display, it is made made larger between generations on 2021’s Galaxy Z Flip 3, looks to have been carried across to the Flip 4; with the same 1.9-inch Super AMOLED panel as before, plus the same 260 x 512 resolution and 60Hz refresh rate too.

What I love about the Samsung Galaxy Flip4 is where you can do some basic stuff without you opening the device. In here, you can see the date, time, battery percentage at the cover screen. You can also swipe to the left for notification and swipe to the right for the widgets and swipe down for quick setting. It is pretty convenience for me, and is easy to look at messages especially you are in meeting and others.

As the stuff here is pretty limited, there is wide selection of widgets you can choose from such as the media controls and calendar. The little small screen is indeed a beauty to the whole phone as it can do quite a number of things with it.

CAMERA

The Camera is always the key when we got a phone and for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, the front camera comes two 12MP sensors (f/1.8 and f/2.2 ultra-wide) with 10x Zoom, and there’s no telephoto lens.

As for the apertures, it remains the same between the two generation buy we observed that the primary lense for Fllip 4, is wider and promises you with the brighter stills and video and this definitely thanks to its larger pixels which is at 1.22µm, comparing to the previous model at 1.4 µm. Asides from that, I had found out that the image are much better comparing to Flip 3 in terms  of low light.

These are some of the pictures we took with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Asides from that, both the OIS ( Optical Image Stabalization) and VDIS (video digital image stabilization) have been improved too. What I love about the Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 is where I no longer need my tripod as it can be fold to 90 degrees to get a good shot and is stable.

The Performance

The phone completes with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip. With this latest chip in t, one can assured for a better performance. It is paired together with the 8GB RAM (more than enough for easy multitasking) and storage options range from 128GB to 512GB. You are not able to extend the storage, therefore it would be a good choice to opt for a bigger storage.

The Battery

Battery is indeed improved slightly, where it comes slightly larger compare to Flip 3. The battery had increased  to 3,700mAh . And comparable, to Flip 3 It is at 3,500mAh. This had helped slightly for heaver user like me.

We had tested the phone, it may last you till night but it still a notable improvement which I am impressed with. As for charging, Samsung has boosted the max charging speed too where it depends of your charger capability. They comes with the 25W via wired charging while 15W via wireless. It is also faster than usual as we are able to get the full charge in 80 minutes

Overall

Overall, we are impressed with the NEW Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 where it brings you with the slimmer and elegent look. Performance is impressive to me and I am happy with the bigger battery. As for now, they comes with Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold, and Blue, and there’s also a Bespoke Edition that will let you choose a frame and colors for the panels. It comes in three configurations – all of which have 8GB RAM – with storage amounts of 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB and a starting price of RM 4,099.
