Jacob’s Celebrates Everyday Original Malaysians This Malaysia Day

September 16, 2020 by StrawberrY Gal

This year has shown many of us that not all heroes wear capes and Jacob’s, the Original Cream Cracker is shining the spotlight on them. In line with that, this Malaysia Day, #TheOriginalsMY by Jacob’s will celebrate everyday Original Malaysians who are outstanding in their own way – individuals who have made our day-to-day lives a little easier, those who put a smile on our faces and people who have made our country a safer, happier and better place in their own unique ways.

“Having gone through unprecedented and challenging times since the start of 2020, this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day carries a deeper meaning for us as a nation. We have pulled through together and with Jacob’s #TheOriginalsMY, we are acknowledging and celebrating Original Malaysians who are all around us – our friends, neighbours and even strangers. It is an opportunity for us to sit back and reflect on those who have made a positive and lasting impact on our daily lives, no matter how big or small,” said Arpan Sur, Associate Director, Southeast Asia Biscuits & Snacks.

In 2019, Jacob’s celebrated eight inspiring Original Malaysian icons who are legends in their own fields, icons who are known for being the first, the best, and the original of their crafts. This year’s line-up of Original Malaysians includes four inspiring everyday heroes who have given us so much yet expecting so little in return, meet:

Nur Azmina Burhan – A hairstylist who helps the under privileged communities. Her free haircuts give these communities in Kuala Lumpur fresh looks and renewed hope.
R. Jeganathan – As the national Paralympics coach, he turned disability into an ability for man. He coached and journeyed with our national Paralympics athletes as they secured three gold medals and two world records at the 2016 Rio Paralympics.
Adrian Wong – Using 3D printing technology, he made face shields when there was a shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), aiding frontliners in our country as they battled the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rizo Leong – Collaborating with other local artists, his work champions social causes, giving a voice to those who need it most. In recent times, their art was used to raise funds for frontliners as they braved the ongoing pandemic.

“We live in a country that is made up of people who are always ready to extend a helping hand or put a smile on our faces whenever we need it the most. Experiences like these are truly Malaysian and through #TheOriginalsMY, Jacob’s is encouraging everyone to embrace such moments and recognise the people in it,” added Arpan.

Feeling inspired? This Malaysia Day, Jacob’s invites everyone to celebrate their very own Original Malaysian, individuals who are irreplaceable and inspiring in their own unique way. Pay tribute to your everyday Original Malaysian by using Jacob’s Instagram filter to engrave their face onto a Jacob’s cracker. Be sure to #TheOriginalsMY and tag @jacobs_malaysia in your Instagram postings. Scan the QR code to access the AR filter or, visit Jacob’s Malaysia’s Instagram profile (@jacobs_malaysia) for more details.

Jacob’s has been in Malaysia for 67 years and is one of the many brands under Mondelēz International, the leading snacking powerhouse. In addition to offering consumers the right snack, for the right moment, made the right way, Mondelēz has been journeying with Jacob’s since the start of ‘The Originals’ campaign – beginning with Original Malaysians last August in which inspiring Malaysian personalities who are legends in their own fields were celebrated, followed by Original Malaysian Traditions in January this year to get the High Pole Lion Dance, a Muar-born tradition recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.
