Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur lit up a Christmas Charity Tree which was adorned with 140 sets of Santa and His Elves prepared by the hotel’s pastry chefs. Manfred Weber, Area General Manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur officiated and launched the ceremony which was organised by Dato’ Rosemarie Wee, Area Director of Communications.
The event was specially prepared for a number of underprivileged and disabled children from two disability services and support organisations, namely Tasputra Perkim and Pusat Penjagaan Kanak Kanak Cacat Taman Megah.
The Christmas Charity Tree launch is tied to the hotel’s “Embrace The Gift of Life” annual charity project. During the event the children were treated to a delightful buffet spread complete with entertainers such as a clown, a balloon maker, Santarinas, and Santa Claus.
Also present at the ceremony were senior management members of the hotel.
As the programme unfolded participants from the two charities were given tasty Christmas cookies and ang pows much to the generosity of the management of Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. Staying true to its principle of contributing back to society and helping the needy, the Christmas Charity Tree continues to be a hallmark annual corporate social responsibility event by the hotel.
Traditionally Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur would invite organisations and individuals to sponsor a set of Santa and His Elves worth a minimum donation of RM1,000. In return, the donors’ names or company logos would be prominently displayed on each set of Santa and His Elves.
The money collected for this year’s event went to the children who are in urgent need of funds for immediate surgery and medical care.
