ART COMPETITION AT EASTIN HOTEL PJ THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD : COLOURFUL FESTIVALS AND CELEBRATIONS IN MALAYSIA

October 4, 2015 by StrawberrY Gal

Malaysia is a bubbling, bustling melting-pot of races and religions where the Malays, Indians, Chinese and many other ethnic groups live together in peace and harmony. Our multiculturalism has made Malaysia a gastronomical paradise and home to hundreds of colourful celebrations and festivals.

The Malaysia Year of Festivals 2015 (MyFest2015) campaign by Tourism Malaysia seeks to showcase and celebrate Malaysia’s bountiful and diverse cultures and festivities as a tourist attraction. The MyFest 2015 campaign will continue to boost the tourism sector and ensure that the Malaysian tourism industry remains robust. Thus, being in Malaysia, we are blessed with many races and religions that gives us the opportunity to celebrate various festivals.

With this in mind, Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya and Eastin Hotel Penang have decided to incorporate the theme Colourful Festivals & Celebrations in Malaysia in the production of our corporate calendar for next year. This calendar will be a continuity to the 2015 calendar with the theme My Kampung. Thus, the Colourful Festivals & Celebrations in Malaysia through the Eyes of a Child Art Competition was the chosen theme for the upcoming year, 2016.

Through this project, the hotel aims to raise awareness and embrace the uniqueness of each and every festival and celebration that is truly a Malaysian experience.

Ms. Jane Suppiah, General Manager of Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya said, “We are pleased to organize the art competition for the third consecutive year in Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya and Eastin Hotel Penang. We feel that many of our children should be aware of these festivals and celebrations celebrated in Malaysia.

She also added, “We hope that through researching or experiencing some of the ten themes given as drawing options for this year’s competition, we will create awareness & preserve the memory in the children of our various festivals and celebrations celebrated in our country.”

The art competition is segregated into two categories, aged 6-10 years and 11-15 years with 5 different themes to be chosen for each category.  Admission is free for all participants.

Themes for children aged 6 to 10 years old are Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali, Gawai Harvest Festival and National Day. Themes for children aged 11-15 years old are Christmas, Mid-Autumn Festival (Mooncake), Dragon Boat Festival (Dumpling), Wesak Day and Thaipusam. The competition runs for 2 hours whereby children need to draw and colour their selected theme using crayons and water colour.

Top three winners and three consolation winners will be chosen from each category.  Champion for both category will stand a chance to walk away with amazing prizes worth up to RM3, 500.00 inclusive of an Apple iPad Mini while the rest of the winners will walk away with prizes sponsored by Eastin Hotel and other sponsors namely Asian World Holidays, Dutch Lady, Firefly, Halex Woolton (M) Sdn Bhd, Kidzania, Kimberly-Clark Trading (M) Sdn Bhd, LOGO Fashion Centre Sdn Bhd, Neckermann, Nestle, Popular Book Store, Profresh, Sompoton Spa, Southern Lion Sdn Bhd, Swiftlet Eco Park, Tender Soft, Texas Chicken (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, The Chicken Rice Shop, Themed Attractions & Resorts Sdn Bhd and Yakult (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
