AWARD-WINNING RESTAURANT, TAO CHINESE CUISINE DEBUTS TIME-HONOURED DUMPLINGS

May 9, 2014 by StrawberrY Gal

Throbbing beat of the drums from the dragon boats are signaling the near of the Dragon Boat festival. InterContinental Kuala Lumpur’s signature Chinese restaurant, Tao Chinese Cuisine is honouring the annual tradition with a unique assortment of glutinous rice dumpling this year.

Complete the spirit of the festivity with Tao’s glutinous rice dumplings or fondly known as chang available from May 20 to 2 June. Offering only the best, the chang are made in-house and wrapped individually with traditional lotus leaves by award-winning Executive Chinese Chef Wong Lian You and Dim Sum Chef Lo Tian Sion as they teamed up to enhance all-time favourites and bring forward new creations.

Pleasing palates with both savoury and sweet glutinous rice dumpling choices, taking centre stage is the ‘Traditional Hong Kong Sea Treasure Chang Dumpling’ (港式海味菓蒸粽) filled with finest ingredients of sea cucumber, baby abalone, fish maw, dried scallop and dried oyster for a luxury treat. Priced at RM82++ per piece, this larger than usual squared-dumpling is fully-flavoured and truly tempting.

Another decadent choice would be the ‘Homemade “Hakka” Chang Dumpling’ (自製客家極醬肉粽), made interesting by the chef’s special homemade “Hakka” style sauce, XO sauce, black-eyed beans, chicken meat, smoked duck meat and dried oyster. Robust and rich, this dumpling is priced at RM36++ per piece.

For those that prefer their dumpling sweet, the Purple Potato and Banana Chang Dumpling served with Caramel (l甜薯香蕉伴焦糖粽) is chef’s new take on the traditional delicacy infused with a modern twist. Priced at RM18++ per piece, this moist glutinous rice wrapped around generous portion of red potatoes and banana topped with rich caramel drizzle is a must-try!

A great gift for friends and family in conjunction with the Dragon Boat festivity, Chef Wong and Chef Lo’s chang delectables are available for dine-in and takeaway. For reservations, call Tao at 03-2161 1111 or email the team at [email protected]. Tao Chinese Cuisine is open daily from noon to 2.30 pm for lunch and 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm for dinner. Visit us at www.intercontinental-kl.com.my for more information.

Tao is designed to bring guests authentic and memorable dining experiences through the revival of traditional cooking techniques, tailored by the skills of Executive Chef Wong, and exceptional menu items. “Tao”, which means peach in Chinese, is decorated graciously with bloom of the pale pink peach flowers and features hundreds of ornate Chinese teapots. The restaurant houses six elegant private rooms all named after the dynasties in China – Han, Song, Tang, Yuan, Ming, and Qin.
