House of Suntory Brings Toki Time to Malaysia

July 6, 2026 by StrawberrY Gal

The House of Suntory, the founding house of Japanese whisky, officially launches Toki Suntory Whisky in Malaysia. A modern expression of Suntory’s house style, the  award-winning authentic Japanese whisky brings together Hakushu, Yamazaki, and Chita, into a harmonious whisky experience that emphasises approachability without compromise.

A VIVID BLEND, TIMELESSLY MADE

“Toki,” the Japanese word for “time,” reflects a cultural philosophy deeply rooted in Japan, a respect for heritage alongside a continuous drive for reinvention. This duality of tradition and innovation defines the House of Suntory’s approach to whisky making.

WITH SIGNATURE BALANCE OF 50% MALT AND 50% GRAIN

At its core, Toki is a refined expression of Suntory’s blending philosophy, crafted as a sipping whisky that reflects balance, precision, and accessibility. Rather than following conventional blending structures, it innovatively showcases a deliberate rethinking of hierarchy led by House of Suntory’s fourth Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo, where each component is given equal importance in shaping the final expression.

Traditionally, grain whisky played a supporting role within blends, but in Toki, it is elevated as an equal expression of character, reflecting the House of Suntory’s belief in balance and refinement across all components. This approach results in a whisky that is structured yet fluid, and precise yet expressive.

Hakushu American white oak cask malt whisky brings freshness, soft mellowness, and vibrant green apple notes, while Chita heavy-type grain whisky contributes clean structure, gentle sweetness, and vanilla-like smoothness. These are harmonised with select Yamazaki malt whiskies, adding depth, roundness, and layered complexity. Together, they create a vivid, balanced, and silky blend that reflects Suntory’s philosophy of harmony (wa), where seemingly contrasting elements are brought into seamless alignment.

AWARD WINNING, MODERN AUTHENTIC JAPANESE WHISKY

Fully distilled, matured, and bottled in Japan in accordance with Japan Spirits & Liqueurs Makers Association (JSLMA) standards, Toki embodies the heritage and craftsmanship of authentic Japanese whisky. Recognised globally for its quality, it was once again awarded Gold at the 2026 International Spirits Challenge.

EXTRAORDINARY, QUALITY SIPPING WHISKY

The smoothness of Suntory Whisky Toki allows for exceptional versatility – the expression can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, as a highball or mixed as a cocktail. While the Japanese Highball remains part of Suntory’s global whisky culture, Toki’s Malaysia expression focuses on bottle-serve rituals and whisky enjoyed on the rocks, reflecting local preferences for shared, communal drinking moments. These serves highlight Toki’s smooth texture and distinctive flavour profile shaped by its three-distillery blend.

Crisp, smooth, and perfectly balanced, Toki opens with green apple, basil, and light florals on the nose. The palate unfolds with honeyed sweetness, bright citrus lift, and subtle herbal freshness, leading to a clean, smooth finish with gentle, lingering spice.

“TOKI TIME”

In Malaysia, where whisky is increasingly enjoyed in shared, social moments, Toki resonates with those who value authenticity, craftsmanship, and versatility. More than just a drink, it introduces “Toki Time”, a moment reclaimed for oneself. Whether gathered with friends or unwinding after a long day, Toki transforms each occasion into a personal pause, where presence is savoured through every sip.

“Malaysia has a strong and growing appreciation for premium spirits, with whisky increasingly enjoyed in social and shared occasions,” said Roger Chen, Marketing Director at Suntory Global Spirits Southeast Asia. “Toki brings a modern expression of Japanese whisky craftsmanship – refined, versatile and approachable. It carries the heritage of the House of Suntory, while inviting a new generation of drinkers in Malaysia to experience Japanese whisky in a more expressive and social way.”

To mark its arrival in Malaysia, the House of Suntory introduced Toki Time at 黯 An Livehouse KL, the first consumer launch event celebrating Toki Suntory Whisky’s debut in Malaysia. Tapping into the growing popularity of livehouses as one of Malaysia’s most sought-after social experiences, the event brings together Japanese whisky culture, music, and contemporary social rituals in a setting that reflects Toki’s philosophy of where old meets new.

“The House of Suntory has long shaped the way many of us think about Japanese whisky craftsmanship and balance,” said Shirmy Chan, Co-Founder and Bar Director of TeRu.Mi. “Toki stands out for its well-balanced profile, bold enough to carry character, yet versatile enough to be enjoyed across different occasions and serves.”

“Toki is easy to enjoy on its own because of its smooth and balanced profile, while still having enough character to work across different drinking occasions, from elevated cocktail experiences to more casual social settings,” added Joel Poon, Co-Founder and Bar Manager of Reka:Bar.

“A truly great whisky retains its integrity and character in every serve, regardless of how it is enjoyed,” said Darwin Ng, Suntory Brand Ambassador, Malaysia. “Toki is defined by its subtle complexity and balance, with enough depth to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks. Its versatility allows it to adapt across occasions while retaining its identity.”

To enjoy Toki Suntory Whisky, serve it neat to experience its full complexity, or on the rocks to open its citrus and herbal notes. It can also be served as a well-crafted cocktail or as a Japanese Highball with chilled soda water for a crisp, refreshing expression, garnished with fresh grapefruit.

Toki Suntory Whisky is now available in Malaysia at selected premium bars, including 黯 An Livehouse KL, Pahit, TeRu.Mi, Coley, Reka:Bar, Frank’s Bar KL, Dear Hearts and Chilled Spirits, as well as leading retailers and online platforms nationwide. The recommended retail price (RSP) for this superior liquid is accessibly priced at RM268. For more information on The House of Suntory and Toki Suntory Whisky, please visit here.
