Executive Chef Yab joined Golden Palm Tree Malaysia

October 6, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

Golden Palm Tree Malaysia is pleased to announce the appointment of Yab Han Wei as the Executive Chef. A veteran chef with over 30 years of experience, Executive Chef Yab brings with himself a wealth of knowledge and passion for the culinary world.  In his capacity as Executive Chef, he will play an integral role in overseeing the daily kitchen operations and culinary management of all the restaurants’ kitchens, including catering and special event management, food cost budgeting and supply chain, food preparation and presentation to ensure alignment with the resort’s vision of providing not only an extraordinary culinary experience for all its guests but to ensure the highest quality standard that’s befitting a 5-star resort.

Executive Chef Yab’s involvement in the culinary field took off in 1992 when he joined Genting Highland World Resort as Commis I and from thereon, it was a ‘wok in the park’ so to speak.  His portfolio included numerous stints with international hotel chains not only in Malaysia but overseas as well.  In 2010, Yab moved to The Laguna, a Luxury Collection under St Regis Hotels & Resorts in  Nusa Dua Bali as Complex Executive Sous Chef and was later with The Westin Siray Bay Phuket in Thailand for close to two years.  The year 2014 was a pivotal point in Yab’s culinary journey as he joined Sheraton Dameisha in Shenzhen, China as Executive Chef.  He has also served in similar roles with the Marriot Haikou in Hainan, InterContinental in Xishuangbanna, Thaiwoo Ski Hotel & Resort in Mainland China, Wanda Reign Wuhan, Kerry Hotel in Beijing which is part of Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts and InterContinental in Zhuhai.

After a decade away from home, Chef Yab returned to Malaysia in 2024 and was the Executive Chef with the Dusit Princess in Melaka before coming on board at Golden Palm Tree Malaysia.

About Golden Palm Tree Malaysia:
