A CULINARY TRIBUTE TO PERANAKAN HERITAGE

December 5, 2024 by StrawberrY Gal

Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is delighted to announce JP Peranakan Palate Week, a week-long celebration of authentic Peranakan flavours, running from 6 to 14 December 2024 at JPteres. Renowned Celebrity Chef Florence Tan, a true blue Nyonya from Tranquerah, Malacca, will collaborate with the restaurant’s culinary team on 6 and 7 December, presenting her signature Peranakan dishes that embody the rich culinary heritage of Nyonya cuisine.

This collaboration between JPteres and Chef Florence Tan celebrates the tradition and authenticity of Nyonya cuisine, aligning with the restaurant’s commitment to authentic Malaysian cuisine and dedication to serving the best of local flavours. As an international ambassador for Nyonya cuisine, Chef Florence has long been a champion of the Peranakan culinary arts, showcasing her expertise both in Malaysia and internationally. As the host of TV3’s Dapur Nyonya, Chef Florence has introduced countless viewers to the time-honoured techniques and rich history behind Nyonya cooking.

During JP Peranakan Palate Week, Chef Florence will present a carefully curated menu featuring her signature dishes, including Chicken Sek, a traditional dish rich in flavour; Fried Nyonya Noodles with Rojak, a perfect balance of sweet, sour, and savoury; Ikan Gerang Assam, a tangy, spicy fish stew; and Sup Itik Tim, a comforting duck soup reflecting the Peranakan’s fondness for duck, among many other special dishes.

Chef Florence will take centre stage on 6 and 7 December, preparing these exceptional dishes alongside the culinary team at JPteres. The Peranakan dishes will also be available at the JP Weekday Lunch Buffet from 9 to 13 December and the Gerai@JP Dinner Buffet on 14 December.

JP Peranakan Palate Week serves as a preview of what’s to come in the hotel’s much-anticipated ‘Dine With Chef’ series, which will return in May 2025. “Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is thrilled to partner with and showcase the expertise of both local and international culinary talents, celebrating the vibrant and dramatic essence of different unique cuisine types,” shared Executive Chef Grzegorz Odolak of Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur. “This collaboration underscores our commitment to delivering iconic experiences that honour cultural heritage and elevate the dining experience.”

The JP Weekday Lunch Buffet is priced at MYR 128 nett per adult and MYR 64 nett per child, while the Gerai@JP Dinner Buffet is priced at MYR 158 nett per adult, with complimentary dining for children aged 12 and below. For more information or to make reservations, guests can visit the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur website, follow the hotel on Facebook or Instagram, or contact [email protected] or WhatsApp +60 12-621 9869.
