Double Good Restaurant @  Summerskye

October 29, 2024 by StrawberrY Gal

During our recent trip back to Penang, we had the pleasure of dining at Double Good Restaurant, a well-loved local favorite known for its delectable Chinese cuisine. With roots tracing back to its original location at Bukit Jambul, Double Good has long been a go-to spot for both locals and visitors. Their expansion to a new outlet at Summerskye Residence is a testament to their growing popularity. This newer branch not only offers more space for diners but also provides the convenience of hassle-free parking, making it an attractive choice for family meals or casual gatherings.

Walking into the Summerskye branch, the first thing we noticed was the welcoming ambiance — a comfortable, spacious setting perfect for enjoying a leisurely meal. The restaurant manages to combine a relaxed atmosphere with attentive service, setting the tone for a satisfying dining experience.

Sweet and Sour Pork

We began our meal with the restaurant’s signature Sweet and Sour Pork, a classic dish to have. The crispy pieces of pork were coated in a well-balanced sauce that delivered just the right mix of tanginess and sweetness, making it an irresistible start to our feast. The pork was tender on the inside with a deliciously crunchy exterior, and the sauce was neither too overpowering nor too mild.

Deep Fried Chicken with Mango Sauce

Next up was the Deep Fried Chicken with Mango Sauce. This dish was a delightful fusion of textures and flavors. The chicken was fried to golden perfection, and the sweet mango sauce elevated the dish with its refreshing tropical notes.

Braised Beancurd in Claypot

For a more comforting and hearty option, we opted for the Braised Beancurd in Claypot. Served piping hot, the dish was rich with layers of flavor. The beancurd, soft and silky, absorbed the umami-packed broth wonderfully. The claypot kept everything warm throughout the meal, allowing us to enjoy the dish at its best — full of warmth and depth, with tender vegetables and tofu that melt in your mouth.

The Golden Sand Prawn

The Golden Sand Prawn was another standout. The prawns, coated in a light crispy batter, were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The “golden sand” seasoning brought a unique salty-sweet crunch to the dish, making it both flavorful and addictive. Every bite was satisfying, with the freshness of the prawns shining through despite the rich seasoning.

Stir-Fried Vegetables.

To balance out the richer dishes, we also enjoyed a simple plate of Stir-Fried Vegetables.

So if you’re in Penang and looking to enjoy a hearty, comforting meal in a convenient and spacious setting, Double Good Restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
