Add Ayam Brand Coconut Milk for Great Taste & Authenticity!

April 10, 2024 by StrawberrY Gal

Coconut milk is a must-have for authentic Malaysian cooking be it Malay, Indian, Chinese, Orang Asal or Orang Asli. Coconut milk makes the taste, texture and aroma of local meals the real deal from Nasi Lemak, Rendang, Curry Fish Head, Sardine Curry, Sarawak Laksa, Piaren Ah Manuk and Banana Flower in coconut milk.

Ayam Brand™, a 132-year old Malayan heritage brand famed for its wide range of quality, preservative-free, no added MSG, healthy, convenient and Halal certified foods, understands and champions coconut milk for its healthy goodness, great taste and the authenticity it adds to Malaysian cuisine.

Ayam Brand has been providing the great taste and health benefits of coconut milk, in convenient packs for decades. Ayam Brand™ Coconut Milk is hygienically squeezed from selected ripe coconuts, then sealed in convenient tetra packs without preservatives using Ultra High Temperature (UHT) technology.  It is as good as squeezing by hand but so much easier without the hassle of cleaning up after with just the right thickness and is suitable for every recipe.

Choose from Ayam Brand Coconut Milk in 200ml (RM3.00) and 1litre (RM11.90) that is great for large families or commercial use, Ayam Brand Santan Trim with 45% reduced fat (200ml for RM3.00) or for dessert lovers, try Ayam Brand Coconut Milk Super Light (with just 5% fat) 330ml, enhanced with coconut water (RM3.60), depending on your preference.

Ayam Brand™ Coconut Milk pairs perfectly with Ayam Brand™ Local Pastes (RM5 for 180g) with well-loved pastes including Rendang, Chicken Curry, Fish Curry, Masak Lemak and Kurma. Enjoy deliciously authentic, great tasting and healthy meals with Ayam Brand™ Coconut Milk during this Hari Raya Open House season, and keep your pantry stocked with these staples even when the festive season is over for a quick lunch or dinner.

Nutritional Benefits

The ancestors valued coconut milk highly for its health benefits, and they were correct. The saturated fat found in coconut milk is beneficial when consumed in moderation with a healthy diet.  It consists of lauric acid and medium chain fatty acid (MCT) which makes it easier for our body to metabolize , compared to long chain fatty acid. Our body will break down the coconut milk fat into monolaurin, a compound with antiviral and antibacterial properties , a reliable resource for our body’s immune system. Coconut fat provides the body with nutrients and energy while promoting the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E and K) and minerals (calcium, magnesium, and iron).

Here are two quick and simple recipes that work equally well as festive fare or as daily meals. As always make these recipes your own by adding or subtracting ingredients. Here are the  step-by-step instructions to make and serve authentic Malaysian favourites.

Simple Rendang Mackerel

This four ingredient dish has a complexity and flavour that has to be savoured to be believed. Add one pack of Ayam Brand™ Rendang Paste into a wok, and fry until fragrant for 2 to 3 minutes. Next add 120ml of Ayam Brand ™ Coconut Milk and stir gently until well-combined. Drain a can of Ayam Brand Sardine or Mackerel in Tomato Sauce (425g). Add the Mackerel or Sardine into the rendang gravy. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally until sauce thickens. Add Ayam Brand™ Kerisik (40g), and mix in gently until well combined. Ayam Brand Mackerel and Sardines are rich in Omega 3, protein and calcium for an extra nutritious Rendang dish for family and friends.

And that’s it. Serve with nasi himpit during the festive season, or pair it with rice for a satisfying daily meal.

Prep time: 3 minutes, cooking time: 20 minutes, serves: 4 to 5 pax

Kurma Daging

This festive season, and for everyday it is always good to have a non-spicy dish available for the little ones, and for people with sensitive palates. Enter kurma that is coriander-based instead of chilli-based making it delicious but without the potent spiciness of chilli. This six ingredient Meat Kurma is that dish.

Pour one pack of Ayam Brand™ Kurma Paste into a pan, fry until fragrant, then quickly add 80g of diced carrots, and 300g of sliced meat (beef or chicken) and saute until the meat is medium well done. Top with 200ml of water, cover the pan with lid and let it simmer for about 10 minutes or until the meat is cooked and the carrots have softened. Add 80g of quartered red onion, and 60ml of Ayam Brand™ Coconut Milk and bring to the boil. Optionally garnish with sliced red chillies and coriander leaves. Serve with rice.

Prep time: 5 minutes, cooking time: 20 minutes, serve: 4 to 5 pax

Ayam Brand™ products are widely available from your friendly local provision stores, Aeon, Aeon Big, Econsave, Giant, selected Hero, Jaya Grocer, Lotuss, Mydin, Village Grocer, OTK, Checkers, Matahari, NSK, Pasaraya Econjaya, Sabasun, Pantai Timor, Billion, Sunshine, Nirwana, Tunas Manja, Pasaraya Hwa Thai, Maslee, Target, CS Brothers, Family Store or visit the Ayam Brand™ Official stores on Shopee and Lazada
