SHERATON HOTELS & RESORTS ARRIVES IN EAST MALAYSIA WITH THE OPENING OF SHERATON KUCHING HOTEL

October 23, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio of 31 extraordinary hotel brands announces the opening of Sheraton Kuching Hotel in Kuching, Sarawak, the Land of the Hornbills, making this the first Sheraton Hotel in East Malaysia and the third Sheraton Hotel in the country.

Just 15 minutes’ drive from Kuching International Airport, the hotel’s prime location offers easy access to the central business district, public transport, and several of the city’s cultural and leisure attractions including the Kuching Waterfront and Sarawak River cruises, the Sarawak State Library, the Sarawak State Museum and the iconic Cat Family Statue. With Kuching named as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, the hotel is also an ideal springboard from which to discover the city’s exciting food culture.

“A place steeped in history, culture and mystery surrounded by lush, ancient rainforest and wildlife; Sarawak has piqued the interest of many dreaming of an exotic destination. As the capital of Sarawak, Kuching is also a key destination for business travel,” said Ramesh Jackson, Area Vice-President, Indonesia & Malaysia, Marriott International. “We are very excited to expand our portfolio in beautiful Sarawak with the opening of Sheraton Kuching Hotel, making it our first hotel in Kuching, and our sixth property in East Malaysia. Whether it’s for leisure or work, we are always in search of opportunities in key destinations to deliver the Sheraton brand’s mission of creating intuitive, holistic experience for guests.

Perfect Blend of Old and New

Sheraton Kuching Hotel is an ode to the city’s prominent contrast of the old and new. Situated in the quaint locale of Jalan Padungan, Kuching’s very own Chinatown, Sheraton Kuching is a stunning contrast to the traditional shophouses that line the neighbourhood. The hotel’s outstanding architecture features a unique concave exterior – a bold distinction of modernity in design carefully integrated to complement the surrounding area, making it an iconic landmark.

Step inside where the décor is a testament to Sheraton’s design philosophy, centered around the Art of Gathering, where design blends seamlessly with places to connect, gather, and be inspired through effortless style and comfort.

Once fully opened, Sheraton Kuching will feature 378 guest rooms and 38 spacious suites, comprising a Presidential Suite, as well as Executive, Club and Junior Suites. Each is thoughtfully designed with the brand’s signature comforts in mind, including Sheraton Signature Sleep Experience bed, a 50-in IPTV enabled LED TV, high-speed internet and Wi-Fi, air conditioning, modern furnishings and ergonomically designed workspaces while featuring picturesque views of either the Sarawak River or the cityscape. Staying experience will be further elevated with access to the Sheraton Club Lounge that is opulently embellished and designed for relaxation.

Culinary Delights Re-Imagined

Complementing the city’s status as Malaysia’s first Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO, Sheraton Kuching offers a diverse selection of food and beverage experiences in its four restaurants and bar.

Located on the ground floor is Nomadic, the hotel’s all-day casual dining serving international and local selections. The Assembly café is a place to engage with others anytime during the day over delightful beverages and a variety of freshly baked goods and desserts. Experience the flavors of acclaimed Chinese cuisine at Gu Jin fine-dining restaurant located on level 1, expertly prepared by the Chef with the freshest of ingredients.

Other exciting culinary options will open soon, further elevating the offerings at the hotel. Discover the flavors of Japan at Ukemochi fine-dining restaurant on level 22, that will feature an island sushi counter overlooking panoramic and breathtaking views of the city. Guests can observe teppan chefs as they prepare dishes live at the teppanyaki station. Tabby Gastro Bar at level 23 will offer guests the chance to unwind and enjoy scenic views of Kuching al-fresco or indoors while savoring the bar’s signature cocktails and snacks.

Leisure Experiences for Peace of Mind

Complementing each stay are soon-to be opened facilities exclusive to in-house guests, catering to all ages. Sheraton Fitness, the hotel’s 24-hour fitness center is equipped with Life Fitness’ state-of-the-art equipment for strength and endurance training. The hotel’s 20-meter infinity pool is a ideal for relaxed lounging with a favorite beverage and captivating views of the Sarawak River. The Kids’ Club, for kids between 5-12 years is an exciting place to enjoy fun games and activities under the care of the hotel’s trained and certified caregivers, giving the parents an opportunity to enjoy their stay at leisure.

Sparking Creativity and the Art of Gathering

For successful meetings and events, Sheraton Kuching boasts nine versatile spaces for corporate conferences, board meetings to memorable wedding receptions, including its 830 square-meter pillarless Grand Ballroom that is equipped with cutting-edge audio-visual facilities and a capacity to accommodate up to 700 guests.

“Either for business or leisure, Sheraton Kuching is a gathering place place where the world can come together to explore this authentic and charming city, and guests can be reassured to receive Sheraton’s enduring hospitality hallmarks of reliability, familiarity and excellence,” said George van Oosten, General Manager of Sheraton Kuching Hotel. “Inspired by our community, we are excited to welcome all to experience our new hotel,” he added.
