Samsung Galaxy S23 FE: A Premium Smartphone at an Attractive Price Point

October 15, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

Samsung has once again captivated its audience by unveiling the latest addition to its Fan Edition line-up—the Galaxy S23 FE. Two years after the successful launch of the Galaxy S21 FE, Samsung returns with the S23 FE, offering a host of features at an attractive price point.

Drawing parallels with its premium Galaxy S23 Series, the S23 FE doesn’t fall short of expectations. It presents users with a premium feel right from the unboxing experience. Encased in a sophisticated matte black box, the color of the smartphone is subtly yet clearly indicated on the cover, ensuring a touch of elegance even before the device is revealed.

Design and Display

At first glance, the Galaxy S23 FE captures the signature aesthetics of the Galaxy S23 series. It boasts the familiar linear triple-camera array on the rear, accentuated by chrome rings around each lens. The gentle curves and the premium build give it a delightful one-handed grip.

While its slim 8.2mm profile is marginally thicker than the baseline Galaxy S23 by 0.6mm, its 209g weight (13g heavier than the Galaxy S23+) ensures a balanced and premium feel.

Samsung has refined its design materials. The rear backplate and front exhibit impressive fingerprint resistance, especially noticeable in its light pastel Mint variant. If Mint isn’t your style, the S23 FE is also available in Graphite Black, Cream, and a deep shade of Purple.

Protection is at the forefront, with both sides of the phone covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The frame, however, is made from a standard aluminium alloy, unlike the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and Armor Aluminium featured in the flagship Galaxy S23 series. Still, with its IP68 rating, the S23 FE confidently withstands water immersion up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes and offers full dust resistance, on par with the Galaxy S23.

The bottom edge includes a USB-C port and one of two stereo speakers, with its counterpart located near the top edge of the AMOLED display. The right side features a power button and volume rocker, while the left and top edges remain sleek and uninterrupted. The centerpiece of its design is the expansive Dynamic AMOLED 2X display

The Specifications

The Galaxy S23 series largely relies on the power and efficiency of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. However, in a bold deviation, the S23 FE showcases Samsung’s commitment to its in-house innovations by opting for the Exynos 2200 chip.

Designed on an advanced 4nm fabrication process, the octa-core Exynos 2200 is a testament to Samsung’s engineering prowess. Its architecture promises not just smooth day-to-day operations but also exceptional gaming performance, ensuring rich graphics and minimal lags.

The Camera

The Galaxy S23 FE boasts a versatile triple camera setup to cater your photography needs. It comes with the 50MP F/1.8 camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) and phase detection autofocus, an 8MP F/2.4 telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 12MP F/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera.

The camera setup of the Galaxy S23 FE is capable of achieving shots at up to 30x digital zoom and recording videos at resolutions of up to 8K@24fps, as well as more practical 4K@60 or 30fps video recording. The front-facing 10MP F/2.4 selfie camera can capture videos at up to 4K@60fps, although it lacks zoom and stabilization features.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is equipped with a 4,500mAh battery, which supports 25W fast charging. With this battery capacity and considering its screen size, it should be capable of comfortably handling typical daily usage.

Colours

They are 4 colours available which are graphite, white, lime and purple

What’s Inside.

The box covers a USB-C to C charging cable, a quick start guide and warranty paperwork as well as a SIM eject pin.

Overall Review

Upon the initial setup, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE impressively booted up swiftly, and common tasks such as web browsing were handled without noticeable delays. For individuals who appreciate premium smartphones but are conscious of their budget, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE offers an appealing option. It is available at a price of RM 1,269 for the 128GB storage variant and RM 2,999 for the 256GB storage variant.
