Belly & The Chef @ OUG

June 5, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Belly & The Chef, a charming and cozy restaurant located in OUG. This establishment offers a delightful blend of healthy delights and gastronomic French cuisine, infused with local influences. The culinary mastermind behind it all is none other than Chef Vincent Hoh.

At Belly & The Chef, you can expect a menu that combines traditional recipes with a contemporary flair and innovative cooking methods. Each dish is thoughtfully curated to deliver a wholesome and satisfying dining experience. The restaurant embraces a product-driven concept, prioritizing high-quality ingredients, while also showcasing playful creativity in the plating of their dishes.

The result is a menu that not only tantalizes the taste buds but also pleases the eyes with its artful presentation. From the first bite to the last, you can savor the harmonious flavors and textures that have been carefully crafted by Chef Vincent Hoh.

The Prawn Toast

The Prawn Toast features a luscious prawn farce, which is a finely minced stuffing made from delicately sweet and juicy prawns. This delectable filling is then layered between soft, golden bread, creating a perfect balance of textures. To elevate the flavors even further, a trio of roe consisting of tobiko, ikura, and lumpfish caviar is added, providing bursts of briny goodness in every bite. The dish is completed with a creamy aioli, adding a luxurious touch.

With each mouthful, you’ll experience the nuanced flavors of the ocean. The combination of the prawn farce, roe, and aioli creates a harmonious blend that is both creamy and briny, leaving you craving for more. We enjoyed them so much.

Pumpkin Risotto

A dish that definitely leave you a lasting impression! This dish features a deliciously made risotto that is not only bursting with flavor but also presented beautifully.

The Pumpkin Risotto showcases a vibrant golden yellow color, thanks to the incorporation of pumpkin into the dish. The risotto is expertly cooked to achieve a creamy and velvety texture, offering a satisfying bite with each spoonful. Topping off the dish are pan-seared Hokkaido Scallops, adding a touch of elegance and a delicate seafood flavor. The roasted pumpkin and pepperoni provide additional layers of taste and texture, creating a well-rounded and enticing dish.

The combination of flavors in the Pumpkin Risotto is both comforting and sophisticated. The sweetness of the pumpkin harmonizes with the savory notes of the risotto, while the scallops add a touch of richness and elegance. Every mouthful is a symphony of flavors that will tantalize your taste buds.

Squid Ink Risotto

The Squid Ink Risotto features a velvety black risotto infused with the flavors of squid ink, creating a rich and distinctive taste. The risotto is cooked to perfection, allowing the grains to absorb the flavors and attain a creamy texture. To complement the dish, it is accompanied by a generous portion of huge and crispy deep-fried sotong (squid), which adds a delightful crunch and a burst of seafood goodness.

The dish is further enhanced with the addition of fresh parsley, saffron aioli, and sriracha. The parsley brings a touch of freshness, while the saffron aioli adds a creamy and aromatic element. The sriracha provides a hint of heat, adding a tantalizing kick to the overall flavor profile.

Free Range  Local Spring Chicken

We love the Free Range Local Spring Chicken at Belly & The Chef, where each bite is a tantalizing combination of tenderness and juiciness

The Local Spring Chicken is tenderized to perfection through a 24-hour marination process. This careful preparation allows the flavors to penetrate the meat, resulting in a succulent and flavorful dish that is simply irresistible. The meat is exceptionally tender, offering a melt-in-your-mouth texture that will leave you longing for each subsequent bite.

Served alongside the Free Range Local Spring Chicken are classic accompaniments that complement the dish beautifully. The Caesar Salad provides a refreshing and crisp contrast to the savory chicken, with its vibrant lettuce and the  tangy dressing. The Mashed Potato, creamy and velvety, adds a comforting touch and pairs perfectly with the chicken, creating a harmonious balance of flavors.

Deep Sea Octopus

The Deep Sea Octopus is expertly grilled, ensuring a tender and succulent texture that enhances the overall dining experience. The marinade infuses the octopus with a harmonious blend of spices and seasonings, elevating the natural flavors of the seafood to new heights.

Accompanying this delectable dish is the Baked Potato Pave, a delightful side that provides a creamy and comforting element. The Red Sauce adds a touch of tanginess and complements the flavors of the octopus, creating a well-rounded and satisfying flavor profile.

 Pesto and Grilled Chicken

The Pesto and Grilled Chicken dish at Belly & The Chef offers a delightful combination of flavors. This lovely plate presents a fusion of pasta and succulent grilled chicken, creating a satisfying and balanced meal.

The pesto sauce, while flavorful, is noted to be a bit dry. However, the grilled chicken steals the spotlight with its juicy and tender texture. The well-marinated chicken is expertly grilled to perfection, ensuring that each bite is packed with deliciousness.

As for drinks, they have quite a nice range of drinks that one can try.

Yuzu Mojito

This delightful beverage combines the refreshing flavors of Japanese Yuzu, zesty lime, and tangy lemon, creating a truly revitalizing experience for your taste buds. The Yuzu Mojito is beautifully balanced with the addition of fresh mint leaves, which add a touch of herbal freshness to the drink. The vibrant citrus notes of the Yuzu, combined with the cooling sensation of mint, create a harmonious and refreshing flavor profile that is sure to invigorate your senses.

Whether you’re a fan of French cuisine or simply enjoy exploring culinary creations that marry tradition with innovation, Belly & The Chef is the perfect destination. Prepare yourself for a memorable dining experience where you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Visit Belly & The Chef in OUG and embark on a gastronomic journey that celebrates the fusion of healthy delights, French cuisine, and local influences. Let Chef Vincent Hoh’s culinary expertise take you on a culinary adventure you won’t soon forget.
