Designing For Interactive Spaces – From screen to space, an important change in the ways we design

December 23, 2022 by StrawberrY Gal

The annual tradition of the season of giving has returned once more tob G Hotel and for the first time it was held at G Hotel Kelawai. This tradition that merges the spirit of love,b giving, sharing and celebration comes together with a resplendent Christmas indulgence and gifts for abtotal of 19 children from Salvation Army Penang Children’s Home. This initiative has put smiles on the faces of children, benefitted various homes and NGO’s since we started this A Time to Give corporate social responsibility (CSR) in year 2008.

Salvation Army Penang Children’s orphanage home provides both residential and day care services that help children overcome past traumas. A balance of educational and recreational activities helps build confidence and equip young people for the future.

The children from the Salvation Army Home gave the hotel a Wishlist which were then written on individual wish cards. Each wish card included the name, age, gender and wishes of each child from the Home. All wish cards were hung on the Christmas tree lobby at G Hotel Kelawai for the public to pick a wish card of their choice and purchase the gifts for the child from 24 November to 16 December 2022. Each child gets two wishes and most of the wishes are some basic needs such as stationaries and shoes. Hence, G Hotel has kindly added the 3rd wish and some 4th wishes of story books, toys etc for the children to have some fun.

On 21 December 2022, children of the Salvation Army were invited to the hotel to receive and unwrap their presents. The children celebrated this joyful day of Christmas in Spoon, G Hotel Kelawai with staffs as well as guests and medias who had contributed to the program. Mr. Michael Hanratty, General Manager of G Hotel officiated the event with a welcome speech, followed by a wonderful Christmas dance & carolling performance by the children. The children then unwrapped the lovely presents. The children’s faces were all lit up resembling the Christmas lights seeing that their wishes have come true.

To add to the festive merriment, Santa Claus made a grand appearance as a surprise to the children. The children were then treated to a merry meal such as snack platters and Christmas cookies at Spoon café. “I feel very thankful that the less fortunate children are still loved and cared by the society” said Becky Lurence, Home Manager of The Salvation Army Penang Children’s Home.

“We are delighted and proud that we are able to contribute something back to the society. Initiatives like this help to remind us about the things in life that truly matter. I would like to personally thank all donors and everyone who played their part in making this event successful yet again since its first launch back in 2008. Bringing joy and hope is what we aim to achieve for each child.”, said Michael

Hanratty, General Manager of G Hotel. ‘A Time to Give’ has once again successfully touched the hearts of the public to give back to the community especially during this festive season as it is most important for them to know that they are not forgotten by the society.
