KFC celebrates Merdeka Day with 65 Charity Homes and Organisations Across Malaysia

September 2, 2022 by StrawberrY Gal

KFC, under its operating company QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd, celebrated Malaysia’s 65th Merdeka Day yesterday by delivering meals to 65 charity homes and organisations throughout Malaysia.

KFC distributed a total of 6,500 meals to spread delight among all Malaysians during the nationwide celebrations. Some of the charity homes that KFC visited included SHELTER Home for Children, Yayasan Chow Kit, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Kota Kinabalu and the Malaysian Association for the Blind, Good Samaritan Home, and Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Sinar Suria in Sabah.

“Merdeka is special for all Malaysians so we felt it important to share the spirit with others who may not be as fortunate. As we come out of the grip of Covid-19 with celebrations around the country, we wanted to spread some delight and create nice memories. Under our Add Hope initiative, we are celebrating with the residents and members of these 65 charity organisations nationwide,” said Nehchal Khanna, CEO and Managing Director of QSR Brands (M) Holdings Bhd.

“Merdeka Day provides us the opportunity to remember and practice Malaysian values that are the strength of this nation, such as inclusivity and unity. Throughout the years, a KFC meal has been part of many celebrations, and this Merdeka, we wanted to include more Malaysians in the experience, thus the idea of delivering meals to these 65 homes and organisations was sparked,” he added.

The Add Hope Malaysia programme is an ongoing community outreach initiative that was first initiated in 1997. It is part of KFC’s global Corporate Social Responsibility initiative that aims to highlight and drive support for the effort to end world hunger. This includes raising money annually for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and other hunger relief agencies around the globe. Over the years, the initiative has served nearly 4 million meals across Malaysia.
