Restaurants in Kuala Lumpur You’ve Got to Try

May 30, 2021 by StrawberrY Gal

Kuala Lumpur is the largest city and the capital of Malaysia with a population of over 1.7 million. With an average daily temperature of 85 degrees, outdoor activities are popular. There are several parks, lakes, and rivers in the city to enjoy hiking, boating, fishing, and sightseeing with the main one being KLCC Park.

Kuala Lumpur is a great place to enjoy restaurants as well. Malaysian cuisine is a blend of Indian, Chinese, and European flavors. Some of the main dishes here include nasi lemak (coconut rice with peanuts, anchovies, and egg), satay (kebabs with all kinds of meats), and rendang, which is beef and coconut milk stew.

Tip: Enjoy your dining experience hands-free. Drop off your bulky bags for safekeeping at a Kuala Lumpur bag storage locker and go try some amazing dishes.

Breakfast Spots

Sausage KL Café & Deli

Start your day off right with some fantastic British sausages at KL Café & Deli. They have 16 different kinds of sausages to sample. Try hunter duck with smoked duck breast, boerewors with pork and beef, and cranberry and thyme. Or try the Scotch eggs, ham, biltong, or bacon. And the black pudding is outstanding.

Antipodean Bangsar

Antipodean Bangsar serves breakfast all day or you can wait until 11 a.m. and get anything on the menu. The Big Breakfast will keep you going all day with sausages, hash browns, scrambled eggs with mushrooms, and toast. If you want sweets, try the crepes with Nutella, banana pancakes with butterscotch, or porridge honey.

Bubble Bee Café

Named for their bubble wrap waffles, this is a perfect place for those with a sweet tooth and a big appetite. Try the Merry Berry with vanilla gelato, blueberries, strawberries, and pocky sticks or the Dark Beast with chocolate gelato, cookies, M&Ms, and pocky sticks. They also serve eggs, granola, and omelets.

Fast Food

Burger on 16

When you want a burger to go, head to Burger on 16 where they have over 20 hamburger specialties to choose from. The Mad Cheeseburger has a huge burger stuffed with cheddar, the Teriyaki has a chicken patty with teriyaki sauce, and they have a chickpea burger for vegans. Sides include fries, wings, and onion rings.

TAPAK Urban Street Dining

You can find these TAPAK food trucks all over the city and they all serve delicious street food. From grilled rosemary lamb satay to nasi lemak kukus, they have all the Malaysian street cuisine. In some locations, you can also enjoy other types of food like burgers and fries, pasta, and delicious churros.

Signatures Food Court

When you want a variety of fast-food choices, the Suria Mall is the place to go. They have 38 eateries in one spot so you can get whatever you want and then some. Grab some oysters at Shucked, ramen from Kagura, or burgers and pizza from Fuel Shack. For dessert, go to Baskin-Robbins, Godiva, or Dunkin’.

Fancy Food

Chambers Grill Hilton

With a team of chefs to prepare the best food, you are guaranteed to love Chambers Grill at Hilton. From lamb cutlets to wagyu tomahawk, their meats are mouthwatering. They even have a wagyu burger. For dessert, you can choose from tiramisu, brownies with vanilla cream, or rum ice cream on grilled pineapple.

Cielo Sky Dining & Lounge

Known as the best steakhouse and seafood restaurant in Kuala Lumpur, Cielo also has an amazing view from the roof. Some of their signature dishes include akami tuna tartare, Patagonian toothfish, pan-seared scallops, grilled octopus, spaghetti Boutargue Cire D’Abeille, and chocolate lava cake for dessert.

Le Petit Chef Hyatt

You get more than a meal at Le Petit Chef Hyatt. You get a theater experience with a tiny chef who walks around on your table serving your food. Watch the little hologram wrestle a squid or fight a lobster. You can choose from Marco Polo’s Journey, Marco Polo’s Expedition, or Marco Polo’s Little Voyager for the kids.

Specialty Foods

Sushi Hibiki

Chef Makoto serves up a variety of choices at Sushi Hibiki, from the 10-piece sushi choice to the Kiwami omakase meal with appetizers, premium sashimi, a hot dish, 10-piece premium sushi, and dessert. Some of their most popular dishes include sea urchin, oysters, Japanese perch, Tai snapper, and Kuruma Ebi prawns.

Simply Western

If you are missing your western food, Simply Western is for you. They have burgers, cheese fries, nachos, macaroni and cheese, buffalo wings, and big, thick, juicy steaks. Or you can try lamb chops, fried fish, or shrimp. The spaghetti chicken Bolognese and spaghetti carbonara are delicious too.

Loco Mexican Bar & Restaurant

You won’t find too many Mexican eateries in Kuala Lumpur, but Loco Mexican Bar and Restaurant is the only one you will need. Try the enchiladas, quesadillas, burritos, chili con carne, fajitas, or tacos. They also have grilled squid, duck chimichanga, taquitos, and ceviche with tiger prawns, Pico de Gallo, and chili lime.

Desserts

Foo Foo Fine Desserts

Whether you want cake, ice cream, or pastries, Foo Foo Fine Desserts will not disappoint. The cream puffs with salted caramel ice cream are amazing. The semifreddo chocolate brownie is a work of art. And chocolate lovers will love the hazelnut chocolate crackle with chocolate cream and cocoa dentelles.

Molten Chocolate Café

For the true chocolate connoisseur, Molten Chocolate Café has some unbelievable desserts. Try a molten sizzling brownie with Belgian chocolate, ice cream, and cookie crumbs, the molten lava cake with strawberries and ice cream, molten cream puffs, or crunchy chocolate rice Krispies in Belgian chocolate.

The Ice Cream Bar

The Ice Cream Bar is a unique place to go because they serve ice cream with a kick. They specialize in alcoholic ice cream flavors like smoked cognac, Baileys, Guinness chocolate brownie, rum & raisin, or crunchy coffee whisky. Or try a “regular” ice cream flavor like white truffle chocolate, raspberry yogurt, or blood orange sorbet.

Whether you are in town on business overnight or vacationing for a week, be sure to try some of the Malaysian cuisines while you are in Kuala Lumpur. You can eat regular food when you get home. Don’t miss this chance to expand your tasting vocabulary.
