Clorox and MERCY Malaysia Provide Hygiene Kits For Thousands of Flood Evacuees Returning to Their Homes

January 29, 2021 by StrawberrY Gal

More than 40,000 Malaysians across seven states have been forced to evacuate from their homes over the past month due to monsoon season flooding, exacerbated by the La Ninā weather phenomenon.

As floodwaters recede, evacuees returning to their homes require aid to start over.

Clorox Malaysia announced that it would support MERCY Malaysia’s flood relief efforts by providing more than 4,000 units of its trusted cleaning and disinfection products to be used as part of hygiene kits to facilitate the clean-up of evacuees’ homes.

MERCY Malaysia will distribute hygiene kits that include Clorox Bleach Original and Clorox Expert Disinfecting Wipes to evacuees to clean up their homes before they can rebuild in hard hit areas in Johor, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Cleaning and disinfection is critical after flooding as floodwaters pose risks of communicable diseases such as leptospirosis, cholera, typhoid fever and Hepatitis A.

“Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) are in urgent need in the worst hit areas, and the need is even greater due to the on-going Covid-19 pandemic. Good sanitation and hygiene are vital in complying with the SOPs. Our thanks to Clorox Malaysia for generously contributing their disinfecting products that form the basis of the hygiene kits for evacuees returning to their homes,” said Zuraidah binti Mian, MERCY Malaysia Acting Executive Director.

“We are humbled by the work being done by MERCY Malaysia to provide relief to evacuees, and want to support them because the need is urgent,” said Paulo M. Lao, Sales & Marketing Director for Clorox Southeast Asia. “We are glad that our cleaning and disinfection products can help to effectively sanitise homes for a safe environment because Clorox believes that clean matters.”
