GLUCERNA : Trusted Brand to Manage Blood Sugar Effectively

November 16, 2020 by StrawberrY Gal

Did you know that diabetes is one of the killers in Malaysia and it causes many issues to our health. According to the Ministry of Health, diabetes affects 3.9 million adults in Malaysia which is one of the highest incidence rates in Asia. The disease trend is not only increasing, but those diagnosed grapple with how to manage and control their blood glucose.
Recently, Abbott conducted a survey to better understand the challenges of living with diabetes and to find solutions to empower patients. The survey found that 96% of the 158 respondents experience Diabetes Burnout – a state of emotional or physical exhaustion caused by feeling frustrated and overwhelmed by the burden of diabetes self-management, and want to be empowered over their diet.
“Poor glucose control is a major problem among people living with diabetes in Malaysia, as many of them lack knowledge on how dietary behaviour and even slight changes in their eating plan can negatively impact diabetes management,” said associate professor Dr Norlaila Mustafa, consultant physician & endocrinologist, and head of department, Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. “Therefore, keeping blood glucose levels on target can prevent or delay the onset of complications such as blindness, kidney disease and heart disease.”
As my mother has been a diabetic patient for many years, we were introduced to Glucerna.
For those who are not aware, Glucerna is one of the brands under Abbott and this time they have come up with an improved recipe and new flavours, and they are also halal-certified.
This time, Glucerna has come up with not just new packaging but they are also offering the new and improved Low Glycaemic Carbohydrate System to help manage blood sugar, where special carbohydrates that are digested relatively slowly release glucose over a longer length of the gastrointestinal tract than simpler forms of carbohydrates, thus helping to improve post-meal glycaemic response.
And with 4x Higher Myo-inositol compared to the previous version of Glucerna®. Scientific studies have shown that myo-inositol helps to improve insulin sensitivity, leading to better glucose control. Not just that, the new Glucerna® also has a dual fibre blend of soluble fibres (Fibersol-2 and FOS) and insoluble fibre (oat fibre) that helps promote the growth of good bacteria and maintain a healthy digestive system.
It has a unique lipid blend containing Omega-3, Omega-6 & Omega-9 (monounsaturated fatty acid) and is low in cholesterol to support heart health. Not just that, the new Glucerna ® has 28 vitamins and minerals, including increased vitamin D, calcium, zinc and iron to help meet the nutritional needs of people with diabetes. It contains 35% higher folic acid and 56% higher iron (New Glucerna ® Vanilla vs previous version of Glucerna ® Vanilla) to help meet the increased needs of women during pregnancy, making it suitable for women with gestational diabetes.
In the 4 week journey, my mum who has a high sugar level started from 11.6 and reduced it until 6.2 over the past few weeks of consumption. This is such a great result where we are maintaining the right sugar intake as well as taking Glucerna daily.
And for her, we found a lot of improvement after having 2 servings a day which is 5 scoops of Glucerna with 200 ml cold/warm water in the morning and at night. And here, my mum had it as a breakfast supplement and also snack replacement during the night. I can see good improvement where she not just lowered her blood sugar but her food consumption per day is also reduced and the portion size as well.
Now, Glucerna has 3 flavours which are Vanilla, Chocolate, and their new flavour Wheat. For more information, check their website now at https://bit.ly/glucerna-for-diabetec A sample can be requested via their website as well!
