Lunar New Year Bank of Abundance at Sunway Velocity Mall

January 16, 2020 By StrawberrY Gal - Event, Kuala Lumpur Leave a Comment

This year, one can welcome the year of the RAT with Sunway Velocity Mall’s “Bank of Abundance” for a year filled with the growth and success. From 31st December 2019 to 9 February 2020, one can immerse in to the bountiful atmosphere inspired by Sekinchan, the main producer of rice in Malaysia. Head on down to the quaint little village nestled in the mall’s Main Atrium at Ground Floor. Surrounded by scenic fields of paddy, the traditional wooden tall houses are a throwback to the past wreathed with an abundance of reds and golds.

And this time one can enjoy walking around the mall and enjoy the beautiful view of these awesome opulence and waves of bountiful harvest. Standing tall at the Central of the Main Atrium, you can grab the beautiful view of the Wishing Tree. In here, shoppers will receive a Wishing Ribbon with every redemption – make your wish and throw the ribbon upon the tree to make your wish come true!

Asides, one can also shop around at the surrounding the Wishing Tree are the many booths for patrons to shop in preparation for the Lunar New Year. From traditional CNY clothing for kids and adults, CNY cookies, hampers, Chinese teas, and also “Childhood”, a blast from the past with popular snacks and toys from the 1970s to 1990s. Not to be missed are the flower market and also trinkets carts found on Ground Floor.

As shared by Ms Phang Sau Lian, the General Manager of Sunway Velocity Mall, “With this Lunar New Year, it symbolizes new beginnings and renewals with the Rat being the first animal in the 12 Chinese zodiac signs. This renewal aptly suits Sunway Velocity Mall as we embark in new ways to engage with the community and shoppers by revamping the mall’s retail stores, space, and campaigns to further provide the best experiential touch points within the mall to invigorate all the five senses.”

In line with the traditions of the celebrations, the mall has also put together several performances and activities for all. Collect goodies when you catch the God of Prosperity on his walkabouts, and get into the excitement with lion dance performances, Chinese cultural fan performances, Chinese diabolo performances, and Yamaha’s instrumental performances. Every weekend and public holiday also boasts a different activity for kids with tea making workshops, Angpao Fish workshops, Chinese mask making workshops, and various other culturally inclusive hands-on activities.

Aside from the interactive workshops and activities at the Main Atrium, Commune at level 5 has interesting workshops available for various interests. Paper-cutting can be had at 7th Tone Creative, with a lovely instagrammable background that can be enjoyed by all. Arts Et Crafts workshops for kids and adults are also available at heart and Cardboard Country. For something out of the norm, print your own 3D figurines at Techne City.

In accordance with the theme of joy and prosperity, catch up with friends and family  and plan your reunion dinner at the various F&B outlets available, such as Chili’s Rakuzen, Dubuyo, Putien, Dragon-I, Esquire Kitchen, Grand Imperial Restaurant, Pao Xiang Bah Kut The, and Johnny’s Steamboat. For those looking for some guilt-free food, Zen House, Simple Life, Salad Atelier, and The Fish Bowl are definitely the go-to places. For more gastronomy delights, visitors can check out Food Street Food at level 4 and Nanjing Street at V Boulevard Level 1.
Look elegant and bespoke this season with a brand new wardrobe; with smart wear from Parkson, Voir Gallery, and Elle while accessories from Swarovski, Lovisa, Jeoel Jewellery, Poh Kong, Kim Man Heng, and many more will surely complete the glam. Look good for your #OOTD posts by adding on shoes and bags from E.PSE by Eclipse, ECCO, Charles a Keith, Pedro, Carlo Rino and ALDO.
Amidst all the shopping, entertainment and dining, don’t miss out on redeeming the exclusive merchandise available from 31 December 2019 to 27 January 2020. To reward shoppers, the mall is offering a 3-tiered redemption starting with spending of RM300 in a maximum of 2 receipts (RM200 for HSBC Credit cardholders), where shoppers can redeem 2 sets of All Season Prosperity Angpow Packets. Those who spend RM800 in a maximum of 4 receipts (RM700 for HSBC Credit cardholders) are entitled to redeem an exclusive Abundance Rice Bowl Set. Spenders of RM3,800 in a maximum of 6 receipts (RM3,700 for HSBC Credit cardholders) will be entitled to a 28″ Cosas United Luggage Bag!

Corus Hotel Kuala Lumpur is one of my favourite place when it comes to Chinese Cuisine. Located at the busy streets of Jalan Ampang, Corus Hotel KL never fails to impress their guest with the traditional Chinese delights which comes to many favourites.
