McDonald’s and Ministry of Education Honour Nation Builders Through Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald’s 2019

McDonald’s Malaysia in collaboration with the Ministry of Education honoured 25 recipients of Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald’s 2019 in conjunction with this year’s National Teachers’ Day celebration.

The third edition of the award received more than 7,500 public nominations between 1 to 31 March 2019. Out of these nominations, 25 winners were selected in recognition of inspiring teachers who have gone beyond the call of duty in nurturing their students.

McDonald’s Malaysia Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Melati Abdul Hai said the increase in nominations from 1,000 in its first year in 2017 to more than 7,500 this year was an unmistakable sign that Malaysia has an immense pool of exceptional teachers that are willing to go the extra mile and more Malaysians are finding it paramount to give due acknowledgement to these teachers in the country.

“When we read these inspiring stories from Malaysians, it really spurs us on to do more for teachers. McDonald’s Malaysia takes pride in our commitment to engage with the community and this award as well as all our other initiatives to support and show appreciation to these ‘Unsung Heroes’ are testament to that promise,” added Melati.

Datuk Dr Amin bin Senin, Director-General of Education, who was the guest of honour at the event, presented the award to the 25 recipients of Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald’s 2019. Each of the 25 recipients received a cash award of RM5,000 and a trophy. Datuk Amin also acknowledged that Anugerah Guru Inspirasi McDonald’s is a strategic public-private partnership initiative that is in line with the Ministry of Education’s goal of having various parties participate actively in the development of a robust and holistic education system.

Biggest Teachers’ Day Celebration by McDonald’s Malaysia

In conjunction with the National Teachers’ Day celebrations, McDonald’s Malaysia will provide a free meal voucher to each of the more than 420,000 teachers in Malaysia. Teachers can use these vouchers to redeem either a McChicken or Filet-O-Fish meal at any of McDonald’s restaurant across the country between 16 May and 20 May. The total value of free meals provided to teachers are worth approximately RM4.5 million.

On top of rallying the public to nominate teachers through Anugerah Guru Inspirasi and celebrating teachers with a free meal nationwide, McDonald’s Malaysia also organised its annual motivational seminar at nine locations nationwide for more than 4,500 teachers. These seminars, which have been organised for four consecutive years, were conducted by renowned motivational speaker, Dato’ Dr Hj Mohd Fadzilah Kamsah. In addition, all 278 McDonald’s restaurants nationwide held Teachers’ Day parties during the month of April. The in-store gatherings allowed McDonald’s to host and celebrate the teachers through games, photo sessions, and other activities.
