Royal Plaza on Scotts lights up for a good cause

March 21, 2018 by StrawberrY Gal

For the ninth year running, Royal Plaza on Scotts will be part of the Earth Hour movement on Saturday, 24 March, from 8.30pm to 9.30pm. Non-essential lights in the hotel will be switched off and lights will be dimmed in the lobby and at Carousel.

A yearly tradition, Carousel’s buffet counters will be lit up with soy candles, a more eco-friendly alternative to paraffin wax candles. Guests dining in the restaurant are also invited to do the same at their tables. Exclusive to the dinner buffet is an organic salad and home-grown herbs station. Be spoilt for choice with the variety of herbs such as thyme, rosemary, oregano and basil, all freshly harvested from the hotel’s very own rooftop garden, which reduces the carbon footprint by eliminating the need for transportation.

In addition to the salad station, the herbs will be incorporated in dishes such as slow-roasted O.P beef ribs with rosemary and baked fillet of sole with thyme and basil, orange salsa and capers butter sauce.

This year, Carousel will put up an interactive display of the Earth in the restaurant, made of recycled materials like drinking cups and water bottle caps. The display features a hand wheel, which guests can have a go at spinning. Electricity generated from the kinetic energy will then light up the Earth. For the curious, the display will explain how much energy is produced. And to throw in a bit of challenge, guests who can keep the Earth lighted up for half a minute will get to walk away with attractive prizes!

Just for the night, Carousel will take advantage of the dimmed surroundings to transform its iconic birthday symphony into a LED dance show. Watch as our service talents bust out their self-choreographed dance moves, complete with neon bracelets and costumes illuminated with recycled LED lights.

Messages about Earth Hour will be shared on the televisions screens around the hotel to inform guests about the event. They are encouraged to take part by switching off unused electronic devices and lights in their rooms.
