Shangri-La’s Family & Friends Charity Walk

February 8, 2018 by StrawberrY Gal

Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur held its “Family & Friends Charity Walk 2018” in conjunction with World Cancer Day on 4 February 2018. The event was graced by Mr. Manfred Weber, Area General Manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

Over 80 participants, including hotel guests, associates and their family members, joined in the 5 km city walk starting from the hotel to raise funds and awareness on the disease. Proceeds from this charity walk will be channelled towards the National Cancer Society of Malaysia.  Prior to the event, all the participants were guided with a proper warm-up session conducted by the hotel’s Fitness Centre manager and also treated to a hearty breakfast after the event.

“In conjunction with World Cancer Day, we want to inspire our guests and associates to play an active role in the fight against cancer, by being physically active. This charity walk is a continuous effort from our previous charity walk back in October 2017 and we hope to continue to spread the message further than ever,” said Mr Manfred Weber, Area General Manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

February 4th is World Cancer Day, when organizations and individuals around the world unite to raise awareness about cancer and work to make it a global health priority. The theme of this global campaign has been “We Can, I Can.”, with the purpose of getting as many people as possible, all around the world, talking and thinking about cancer, with a view to educating the public on early detection and prevention.
Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts remains committed to operating in an economically, socially and environmentally responsible manner whilst balancing the interests of diverse stakeholders.  In striving to be a leader in corporate citizenship and sustainable development, a corporate-level CSR Committee drives the company’s initiatives in the strategic areas of stakeholder relations, environment, health and safety, supply chain and employees.  These focus areas are unified under the umbrella brand of “Sustainability”, together with  Shangri-La’s core CSR projects “Embrace” and “Sanctuary”.  Hotel-level Embrace programmes focus on Shangri-La’s Caring People Project, which aims to promote the highest level of education and health support in underprivileged communities.  Sanctuary programmes concentrate on Shangri-La’s Care for Nature Project, which promotes the conservation and restoration of biodiversity.  For more information, please visit the group’s CSR section on www.shangri-la.com.
