Eastin Art Competition Through The Eyes Of A Child 2016

October 5, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

Once again, the Eastin Hotel organised the Art Competition through the Eyes of a Child. The theme this year, Turn Back The Clock aimed to raise awareness and to nurture the child’s knowledge to turn back the clock and go back in time to visit the early modes of transportation that were used for peddling hawker fare and occupations that existed, and in some instances, still continue to exist in Malaysia.

With this in mind, the Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur and Eastin Hotel Penang have decided to incorporate the theme Turn Back The Clock in the production of our corporate calendar for next year. This calendar will be continuity to the 2016 calendar with the theme, the Colourful Festivals & Celebrations in Malaysia through the Eyes of a Child Art Competition. Thus, the Turn Back The Clock through the Eyes of a Child Art Competition was the chosen theme for the upcoming year, 2017. Through this theme as well, children will get to familiarize themselves with the days of old as they research topics of their choice in their quest to produce original and creative artworks.

The art competition is segregated into two categories, aged 6-10 years and 11-15 years with 6 choices of themes to be chosen for each category.  Admission is free for all participants. The final artwork is to be submitted in a white and black to integrate with the theme; Turn Back The Clock.

Ms. Jane Suppiah, General Manager of Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur said, “This is indeed the 4th year the Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur is running the art competition which has been receiving positive feedbacks and the hotel is excited to run this art competition as part of its annual events”. She also added, “Through the chosen theme, it allows children to go back in time to reminisce and study the early modes of transportation that were used for peddling hawker fare and occupations in Malaysia”.
Top three winners were chosen from each category.  Champion for both category walked away with RM1000 cash, trophy and other amazing prizes. There were also 10 consolation winners and all registered participants received goodies bags sponsored by Eastin Hotel and other sponsors namely Coca-Cola (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Lychee Tropicana Twister by Etika Group of Companies, Kidzania, Neura Packaging, Nestle, Nestle Bliss Go, O’briens, Haribo, Hua Lian Alumni Taiping, Raden Kreatif, Leagoo (M) Sdn Bhd, Panasonic, Tamura Electronics (M) Sdn Bhd and YC Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd.

Champion for category aged 6 – 10 years old won by Gun Wei Hui aged 10 years old with her theme Rotiman on Bicycle / Motorcycle and champion for category 11-15 years old won by Wong Chee Kent, 15 years old with theme Rubber Tappers. This is the third year that Wong participated in the art competition and it was his dream to win the champion and who knew he indeed won the champion title this year. His parents were very proud of him and glad that their son won the title as next year he would not be entitled to participate since the competition is only open to children age 6 to 10 years old.

Many children took photos with the clown that dropped by the ballroom and played with the funky balloon shapes that he made for the children. It was indeed a fun and exciting event whereby everyone had a great time.
