Cap-ture the excitement of the racing season at Royal Plaza on Scotts Singapore

August 9, 2016 by StrawberrY Gal

Royal Plaza on Scotts Singapore (RP) welcomes Singapore’s ninth year as host to the Grand Prix motor night race by presenting a life-sized bottle caps race car. The talented team worked with unique materials that are distinctive to the hotel for their past creations such as Nespresso coffee capsules, seashells, pasta, chocolate, bread and macarons. The race car structure, which measures 4.40 metres long, 1.90 metres wide and 1.30 metres tall, took a dedicated team of six talented chefs led by RP’s Executive Chef, Darren Ong, about 1097 hours to complete.
RP teams up with Coca-Cola Singapore Beverages to present the bottle caps race car with more than 20,000 bottle caps used. As part of RP’s commitment to its eco-friendly practices, the hotel’s associates have been collecting bottle caps since January this year to make up part of the life-sized race car.
The brands aim to bring the wave of excitement from the race track to the heart of Orchard with this collaboration. The synergy for the collaboration stems from the science of happiness behind both Royal Plaza on Scotts’ and Coca-Cola’s organisations’ culture. Royal Plaza on Scotts is constantly on the pursuit to raise the level of happiness at the workplace as happy staff make happy guests while Coca-Cola’s universal mission inspires moments of optimism and happiness.
Using the patriotic colours, red and white, the creation pays homage to the Singapore flag in celebration of National Day as the exhibit begins its run from the month of August.
In line with the hotel’s belief to give back to society, a donation box will be placed alongside the race car to raise funds for the less fortunate. The total amount of funds raised will be matched dollar for dollar by the hotel to encourage the public to make donations. All proceeds will go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF), which supports over 140, 000 cases of children and youth in providing them with monthly school pocket money.
Chief Experience Officer (CEO) and General Manager of RP, Mr Patrick Fiat, shared, “This year, we worked with our hotel associates as well as the team from Coca-Cola Singapore Beverages, who have supported us in the assembly of bottle caps for this race car display. As part of the celebrations for National Day, the race car, decked out in red and white, will add some colours to the occasion as we do our part for the local community, in support of The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.”
Stephen Lusk, Chief Executive Officer from Coca-Cola Singapore Beverages commented: “Coca-Cola has been refreshing Singaporeans for 80 years and is committed to making a lasting, positive difference in the local community. Sustainability is part of everything we do, and we hope that our innovative partnership with RP will inspire and motivate Singaporeans to see that packaging from drinks and other items is a valuable resource, which can also be recycled and reused in creative and imaginative ways”.
Guests and the public are also invited to partake in the hotel’s social media contest to guess the total number of red bottle caps used to create the race car. The closest guess will win a 2D1N weekend stay in Royal Plaza on Scotts’ Executive Suite with Club benefits as well as dinner for two at award-winning buffet restaurant, Carousel. To take part, simply go to ‘Royal Plaza on Scotts Singapore’ Facebook page and look for the post on the race car, then Like, Share and Comment with the estimated number of red bottle caps.
RP’s life-sized bottle caps race car is now on display at the hotel’s façade till 18 September 2016. Take a look at our work in progress here: https://youtu.be/Bu8FIpUS7Lo
