A total of 37 charity homes across Malaysia were chosen as beneficiaries to receive contributions totaling RM370,000.00 as part of KFC & Pizza Hut’s World Hunger Relief (WHR) Distribution Programme to provide assistance and food aid to less fortunate individuals throughout Malaysia. Each home received a contribution of RM10,000.00.

“We are very humbled and honored to be able to give back to society. This programme would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the continuous support that we received from our customers. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the generous Malaysians who donated and continue to show support towards the cause”, said Ling Mee Jiuan, Senior Vice President of KFC Malaysia.

The WHR campaign, a yearly initiative from KFC and Pizza Hut Malaysia which started in 2007 to help eradicate world hunger was launched in June this year with a list of enthusiastic efforts in raising funds. Similar to previous years, the WHR campaign raises funds through the special “World Hunger Meal” promotion at KFC and Pizza Hut, whereby meals under this promotion are charged an extra RM0.50 which goes directly into the fund. During this campaign, donation boxes are also placed at KFC and Pizza Hut outlets. In addition, the campaign has further expanded its efforts by going online, where funds are raised through a donation portal on the World Hunger Relief Facebook page, www.facebook.com/WHRMalaysia.
Created for the first time this year, the portal gives the caring public another avenue to donate conveniently online through just a few clicks. A WHR charity concert will also be held at the end of the year to further raise funds.
Throughout the years, the campaign’s focus has been food related where funds have been utilized to help feed and provide assistance to the less fortunate. In addition to the funds being distributed locally, a portion is also given to the United Nations World Food Programme. The WHR Distribution Programme launched last year has further expanded by involving NGO’s to act as vehicles to distribute the funds. The WHR Distribution Programme works closely with several NGOs including PERTIWI Soup Kitchen, KECHARA Soup Kitchen, HOPE Worldwide Malaysia, Yayasan Orang Kurang Upaya Kelantan (YOKUK) and the Welfare Department.
“We are pleased and excited that many NGO’s and Government Bodies are partnering with us to provide a vehicle in which the funds are able to reach the hungry, homeless, and needy as well as the hardcore poor in hopes of providing them with much needed relief. We also look forward to collaborate with more organisations in the future,” said Felix Michael, Head of Pizza Hut Malaysia.
