ALEC MONOPOLY PAINTED HIS FIRST BOAT AT W RETREAT & SPA – MALDIVES

Coming directly from Los Angeles to the Maldives, the legendary famous street artist brings W Hotels passion for design to life at the Retreat.

Wearing a bandana as a mask and a top hat to stay anonymous during his public appearances, Alec Monopoly used the iconic W Retreat & Spa – Maldives as his own gallery, executing live street art on the Retreat’s speed boat, Marilyn. Not a regular size canvas for the world’s top artist who has never painted a mural on the ground before. Getting his inspiration from the Indian Ocean’s colorful marine life, twinkling stars and fluorescent plankton, the legendary street artist transformed Marilyn into a vibrant neon colors boat set to ‘Let It Glow’.

“We are extremely excited to work with such a wonderful and talented artist. We wanted to have a boat that stands out from the rest and that fits with the new restyled concept ‘Let It Glow’. Glowing in the dark, this amazing artwork gives a new energy and dimension to the Retreat.” said Jean-Louis Ripoche, Complex General Manager, W Retreat & Spa – Maldives and Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa.


Known for his bold, bright and colorful street art featuring playful pop culture characters in contemporary situations, Alec Monopoly has sold his art to some major celebs, including Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke and Snoop Dogg, along with creative collaborations with Madonna, actor Adrien Brody and Justin Bieber. Nothing seems to be a limit for this epic artist. After painting our boat, he recently partnered with a fashion brand to paint shoes and have his own limited edition.
