MEDINI ISKANDAR MALAYSIA ANNOUNCES MEDINI LIVE! 2015

Medini Iskandar Malaysia Sdn.Bhd, the master developer of Medini, the heart of Nusajaya, Iskandar Malaysia announces the debut of Medini Live! A two-day music, film, arts and community festival at the Mall of Medini, Nusajaya, Johor on June 6th and 7th, 2015.

Over 20 creative artistes have been selected exclusively for Medini Live! to ensure an outstanding artistic experience that aims to put Medini on the local and international map for creativity, culture and community interaction. Medini Live! will be showcasing its live music performances, film screenings and workshops and art exhibitions at the all new Black Box and White Box at the Mall of Medini, highlighting them as a high quality  art and performance space in Iskandar Malaysia and Johor. According to the MD/CEO of Medini Iskandar Malaysia, Ir Khairil Anwar Ahmad, “Medini Live! will be a signature annual event in Medini that will brand Medini as a vibrant, community-friendly and upcoming development to live in and to do business in Iskandar and the region”.

“Medini Live is also an ideal platform for all stakeholders in Medini to collaborate in promoting Medini as a vibrant and attractive destination.” added Khairil Anwar who mooted the idea of Medini Live since 2013.

In partnership with KLs Premier Jazz Club, No Black Tie, Medini Live! has lined up a stellar list of musicians spearheaded by headlining act and Johorean, Joe Flizzow and his Kartel Records hit man, SonaOne. Other musicians worth looking out for include the Malaysian born, New York based, multi-award winning singer songwriter, Najwa and Malaysian music composer, Darren Ashley. Also included in the line-up are brothers JU/NY the exceptionally talented pianist and drummer duo from the US, the ever infectious Havana Social Club from Singapore and a surprise veteran Johorean singer to be revealed soon!

For contemporary art lovers, Medini Live! will be showcasing internationally acclaimed and innovative artists who will be featuring a diverse exhibition of art in varying media during its two-day festival. Among the artists featured are Johor-born Ahmad Zakii Anwar whose exhibition ‘Arang’ will feature a stunning selection of photo-realist charcoal drawings curated by the artist himself, Suzy Sulaiman, a multi-media artist and architect who specialises in new media technology-based artworks who will present an interactive art installation, “Rimba Nusa”, Lisa Foo, well known for her art installations through the use of mundane everyday objects who will present a kinetic art installation made of natural materials “The Wind Dancers” and Indonesian Risang Yuwono’s art photography collaboration with British photographer Helen Marshall, Project Tobong.
In partnership with MAP@Nusajaya, Medini Live! will be screening notable music documentaries at the Mall of Medini Black Box such as the 2013 Academy Award winning documentary, Searching for Sugarman, the 2011 Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary Feature, HavanYork and Quartet! a Junichi Mimura movie about a family classical quartet.

In partnership with Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios, Medini Live! will be conducting exclusive film workshops and studio tours. Workshops will be conducted by renowned writer and film director, U-Wei, alongside actress Sofia Jane and actor Sabri Yunus that will guide the audience through the process of directing and acting in filmmaking. Multi-award winning Producer/ Director Saw Teong Hin will share his behind-the-scenes stories of Puteri Gunung Ledang, the first Malaysian film to be selected for the Venice Film Festival and was on the long-list for the Oscars. Post production sound supervisor and editor Hiro Ishizaka of Imagica SEA, a Japanese key player in cutting edge audio technology and equipment based in Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios will be conducting a workshop on sound in cinema.

Generating some major buzz at Medini Live! will be a rare traditional musical theatre and workshop by one of the last remaining nomadic theatre troupes from Jogjakarta, Ketoprak Tobong supported by AirAsia Foundation and a Johor Traditional Arts special performance. A Johor NGO, Johor Womens’ League (Jewel), will be conducting a safety workshop for the community and the weekend will be completed by the introduction of tango to the public that is bound to get everyone going on their feet! Keep exploring to discover a bazaar of design, craft and iconic Johor dishes personally sourced by Festival Founder & Director, Suryani Senja Alias. ‘At Medini Live! festival, we will be covering the breadth of interests to be found amongst the residents, students, expatriates and the business community that make up the kaleidoscopic society of Medini Iskandar Malaysia. We want to appeal to an equal audience across Malaysia, Singapore and beyond with a finely curated festival by highlighting the interconnections between art, music and film as a theme for Medini Live!,’ says Suryani.
