The Japanese puffer fish or fugu will be featured in a special promotion at Zipangu, Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from 3 to 30 November.

A special menu of more than 10 dishes with puffer fish has been created by Zipangu’s Chef Ishii Takayuki. It’s the safe, non-poisonous variety that will be served here.
It’s such a versatile fish for cooking. At Zipangu, you can have Grilled Puffer Fish with Cod Roe and Mashed Potato, Puffer Fish in Steamed Egg Custard Chawanmushi Style, Puffer Fish Rice in Tea Broth with Sesame Dressing and Crispy Puffer Fish Salad with Citrus Soya Dressing.
Then there is Fugu Capellini or cold thin Italian noodles with Puffer Fish, Teppanyaki Grilled Puffer Fish and Vegetables with Fresh Seaweed Sauce and Deep-fried Puffer Fish in Tempura Sauce, as well as Puffer Fish Carpaccio with Spicy Vinegar Jelly Dressing.
Nowadays it’s no longer the toxic, poisonous variety that it has been known to be. Japanese fish breeders have since developed a non-toxic version, so it’s now possible to enjoy fugu without any fear.
