GALLOPING HORSES – YUANMING HE FIRST ART EXHIBITION IN HONG KONG THE RITZ-CARLTON, HONG KONG

July 3, 2014 By StrawberrY Gal - Event, Hong Kong Leave a Comment

The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong is delighted to present distinguished painter Yuanming He’s first art exhibition in Hong Kong, merging his masterpieces and the elegant settings of the intimate “Sky Art Salon” on Level 102 of the highest hotel in the world, and making Chinese art appreciation part of the memorable experience.

Born in Sichuan province in China, Yuanming was nicknamed “The Cowboy” for his free spirit, growing up among horses, bulls and nature—which later became his inspiration and the theme of his works.  Already listed in the “Who’s Who in Chinese Contemporary Art”, the definitive dictionary of Chinese artists, Yuanming received his first Distinguished Artist award in Sichuan in 1980.  In 1995, he held his first solo exhibition in Singapore.  The following year, he was invited to stage his first exhibition in the San Francisco Bay Area and was named Outstanding Artist by the city of Cupertino, California.  Loved by American art enthusiasts, Yuanming has become a big part of the Los Angeles art scene.  Since then, he has held exhibitions around the world, including the California World Cultural Square, City Hall of Mountain View in San Francisco and Beijing Art Museum.  Famous for his paintings of horses, his works have also been used by the China Post to create a total of 18 stamps in celebration of the Year of the Horse in 2014.

Yuanming is known for his contemporary analytical techniques in his works.  His ink and brush paintings often highlight bright and contemporary colors, which are seen as more whimsical when compared to the subtle colors used in traditional Chinese paintings.  Installed on the ceiling of The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong’s lobby since opening, the three paintings from the “Horse Galloping Across the Sky” series reveal the true essence of his style.  He combines Western colors and abstract elements with traditional brush-painting techniques to create a feeling of power and movement.  The mane and tail are painted with one single stroke, demonstrating the best features of Chinese brush.

“The Ritz-Carlton has long worked with many prominent artisans”, says Pierre Perusset, General Manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong. “Their talent and artistry are great reflections of The Art of the Craft philosophy that has made us world-renowned.  We are proud and honored to have this opportunity to present our first art exhibition by such a prominent Chinese artist whose works have long been the best welcoming scene for any guests stepping into the lobby of the highest hotel in the world”.  Yuanming himself added, “I am delighted to be partnering with The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong.  We both share Oriental values and Western philosophy.  I hope my paintings will take guests on a meaningful journey in life”.

To celebrate the exhibition—which will run from July 26 to August 10, 2014—The Lounge & Bar will be serving an exquisite afternoon tea with items inspired by the works of Yuanming He.  Guests are all invited to visit his exhibition in the intimate “Sky Art Salon”.
