AUTHENTIC NYONYA FOOD AT PRECIOUS OLD CAFÉ, CENTRAL MARKET

Precious Old China Café located in Central Market where the restaurant brings me to a more unique olden days dining experience. Precious Old China Café is just beautifully designed where they have the old table with chairs. It is totally a different environment when we are outside the café itself.

While walking through the restaurant, you can find the huge and spacious environment with the wooden furnitures covered the floor. And around, the restaurant is being decorated with the beautiful paintings, marble table, antiques as well as chandeliars. And what we are going to try will be their authentic Nyonya Cuisine.

Pie Tee

We started with the Pai Tee / Top Hats (娘惹小金杯) is one of the well known item which is served in many Nyonya restaurant and it is indeed an essential order when you are visiting a Nyonya restaurant. The Ju Hoo Char which is being made from shredded yam bean (mengkuang) and chicken, minced eggs and chilli sauce is served and we just dallop the whole thing into the pai tee. Add some chilly sauce on top to get the tastefully sensation with it. It is just a satisfying mouthful delights from the beginning which makes a thumbs up of the dishes.

The other dish is the lo bak (娘惹五香卷) where the minced chicken mixed with the five-spice powder and yam bean being steamed together in the bean curd. Then, it is being deep fried till golden brown. It is just as perfect and dipping in their chilly sauce makes the dish even better. Such a flavorful delights which I am indulging them so much.

Lemak Nenas Prawn (椰香鳳梨蝦) starts of our mains. The traditional dish originated all the way from Malacca is just as good as it is. Generous amount of fresh prawns which was served with the thick gravy is just perfect to dine with the rice. The creamy gravy with the sourish flavors is just appetizing and it is one of my favorite.

ayam pongteh

Ayam Pong Teh (豆醬悶雞肉), a definite Peranakan dishes which always one of the item I will order when entering the Malaccan delights shop. The chicken stew which is cooked with the brown bean paste, shallot, garlic, potatoes and mushroom and the gravy is simply flavorful and thick. Just savory as it is, the Ayam Pong Teh gives me a delicious combination and savory spicy twist of delights.

Asam Fish Fillet
The Asam Fish Fillet ( 亞三醬蒸魚片) is where the fresh dory fish is served with the bed of soury gravy with the moderate spiciness. The gravy brings an appetizing flavors which makes a great match together with the rice bringing us to grab another bowl of rice. The dory fish however taste good too.

Pucuk Paku Kerabu
We also had the Belacan Pucuk Paku Kerabu (馬來盞吵芭古菜) wgere the ferntops are being stir fried with the shrimp paste and garlic. It is some simple delights but the fragrance of the belachan had make it to our likings.

Coconut Rice
To add on, we had the Coconut Rice (藍花飯) instead of normal white rice. Fluffy and soft rice with the added Bunga Telang on top is making the rice more aromatic. It is just well made with the light coconut milk infused within the rice.

Sago Gula Melaka

Sago Gula Melaka (椰糖沙谷米凍) is as perfect as it is. Fragrant palm sugar topped on top of the coconut cream is just perfect, sweet as it is. It melts my heart with it.
