BANGKOK WASABE, KOTA DAMANSARA

May 17, 2011 By StrawberrY Gal - Food Review 4 Comments

Bangkok Wasabe is my visit when I purchase a special deal from MYDEAL. The restaurant offers an authentic Thai cuisine and the restaurant has the contemporary design that is very comfortable. It is said that the crews and the chef are from Thailand. it is located at Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara (right outside Sunway Giza Mall) and the environment is also a modern and chic yet comfortable.

What are the meals we get from MYDEAL privellege? I had bought 2 set of coupons where one is the Pineapple Set Bento and another is a Belachan Rice Bento.

SET 1: PINEAPPLE SET BENTO
The pineapple set bento cokes with a pineapple rice, fish pan cake and a mango salad. It is also furnished with a Lemon Grass Drink, a Tom yam Soup and a Water Chestnut with Coconut Milk. The food is overall nice. The pineapple fried rice is so so as is kinda dry but the fish pan cake as well as the mango salad is simply temptating which make me in love with it.
TASTE: 3/5

SET 2: BELACHAN RICE BENTO
Belacan Fried Rice + Pandan Chicken + Green Papaya Salad + Seafood Tom Yam. It is also furnished with a Lemon Grass Drink, a Tom yam Soup and a Water Chestnut with Coconut Milk. The belachan fried rice is well fried and is simply delicious. It is well accompanied with the spicy green papaya salad as well as the juicy pandan chicken. The overall, I really love it very much.
TASTE: 4/5

The tomyam soup comes with mushroom and prawns. The soup is spicy and very nice.

The Lemon Grass Drink is not really my favorite as I am a fans of this.

The Water Chestnut with Coconut Milk is delicious where the chessnut is crunchy and full with thick coconut milk and nangka.

The overall bill comes to RM 24 for 2 set instead of RM21.50
Thanks to MYDEAL

    Dear Bangkok Wasbe Mgmt,

To cut it short, I walked out of your restaurant, after being bitterly disappointed by my experience this evening. I hope you feel good paying Groupon your 25-30% as I took my RM38 back. For those of you who have the time to read this I strongly suggest you do before they take my comment down. I have made a screenshot of this and this is going on every food blog I know and can comment on.

If you are intending to finds place for a really authentic Thai experience, I suggest you look elsewhere as this has to top my list of the WORST thai experience of my life. We had placed a reservation for 2, intending to be pleasantly surprised as many of those who have purchased their Groupon vouchers. Instead, we were made to wait over an hour, plus more, for something even as simple as a Sontam salad. If your slogan is anything to go by, you are definitely not inspired by MY hospitality as I would have been more attentive to the people I host. Having read many reviews, I shall not doubt that you food maybe good, but that in itself, is not an authentic Thai experience as many may say. Instead, it is the direct opposite of what I would have experienced in my journeys to Thailand. I was not attended to at all, not being asked if we needed anything while we waited, feeling parched and rather famished from a long day.

After having a look around, I believe that your front of house staff are very much akin to headless chickens, RUNNING around the restaurant with little or no direction from any form of a managerial figure, or lack thereof. As for your kitchen, much remains unchanged from the front of house. I took a sneak peek of your kitchen, albeit your staff felt uneasy by my actions, and I do not blame them. Your kitchen is WELL equipped, with sufficient cooks, about just as many as your front of house, but are not able to sort out their orders and served tables in the wrong order, making many customers wait unnecessarily and causing much tension between customers and your front of house staff.

Overall, very disappointed by this experience, but who knows, you may succeed in the future, but unless you sort this out. I can only wish you the best of luck into days times, especially when I have much better places to go to such as Absolute Thai, Bangkok Jam, Good Evening Bangkok, Basil, Thai Thai, Flying Chillies, Amarin Heavenly Thai and Just Thai, just to name a few. You see the correlation and no,I do not work for them or are related to them in any way. My profile’s here for all to see and you will find that i am as independent an opinion as there ever will be in this topic.

You have gems for staff members, they handled what they could with little direction and especially your bar-man, who did his job with both efficiency and effectiveness to get drinks and handled much of the role of a cashier. You need a manger, someone to expedite orders. Who better than to have the owners do that? But I suppose you are only there when the press and media arrive annit?

Here’s to wishing you the best of luck. You’ll need it because as owners of a restaurant that may have the recipe for success, you have just been the weakest link for long term growth. Luck, by the way, is more than a lucky logo representing ‘Chang’ and a lotus leaf. All the best.
