BUAH TALAP, KOTA KINABALU

April 8, 2011 by StrawberrY Gal

What is a MUST fruits to try when you are in Sabah? A simply a great fruit to try there which is Buah Tarap.

The fruit tree is basically one of tree native to Borneo. It is closely related to the Jackfruit, Cempedak, and Breadfruit trees. The fruit has a strong scent, and is considered superior in flavour to both Jackfruit and Cempedak. It is weighing about 1 kg. The thick rind is covered with soft, broad spines. They become hard and brittle as the fruit matures.

The fruit comes in seeds like alike jackfruits. Each seed has a layer of flesh covering it. The texture of the flesh is soft and tastes a little like a soursop – sourish and sweet at the same time. The taste is really unique.

If you are in Kota Kinabalu, you may find them in local markets and is really very cheap

Taste: 4/5
Price: RM 2.00 ( for about 1kg fruit)

Availability: In most of the KK market
