XUAN XIN RESTAURANT (炫昇港式小厨) GURNEY PLAZA

October 13, 2011 by StrawberrY Gal

Xuan Xin, another food restaurant in Gurney Plaza. The shopping mall here is getting more food choices to bring for the Penangtist. The restaurant is located at the 3rd Floor next to Sakae Sushi which is at the new wing. Xuan Xin Restaurant occupies a rather large space and the restaurant served Chinese dishes from dim sum to stir fried. They also serves a lot of variety of single serve meals ranging from various fried rice styles, various types of porridge and noodles.

We started off with the dim sum. We ordered the Steamed Dumpling “Siew Mai”(蟹王蒸烧卖).The siew mai is served warm which is slightly a disappointment. The siew mai taste is not bad just slightly cold.
Taste: 3/5
Price: RM 5.00

Steamed Shark Fin Dumpling (晶莹鱼翅饺) is where the dumplings are inserted with small prawns as well as well as a little shark fins to furnish at the top. The overall taste is above par but the skin is slightly too thick.
Taste: 3/5
Price: RM 4.80

Baked Egg Tarts (酥皮蛋挞) does not turn to be too delicious as the skin is not too fluffy enough. As for thetart taste is not really having egg tart taste and a little plain
Taste: 2/5
Price: RM 4.50

Steamed Spare Rib (鼓汁蒸排骨)with BBQ Sauce taste is acceptable but the meat is slightly hard.
Taste: 2/5
Price: RM 4.50

Steamed Seaweed Roll (日式紫菜卷)which is serves is not bad in taste and the seaweed is well wrapped but it is slightly meaty.
Taste: 2/5
Price: RM 4.50

Braised Shark fin Soup with Dry Scallop and Crabmeat (干贝蟹肉翅) where it is serves with the original shark fin and we can find kinda a lot of scallop and crabmeat in the soup. As for the soup, we found it slightly starchy.
Taste: 3/5
Price: RM 19.50

Deep Fried Prawn with Salad Dressing (沙律明虾球) is where the prawns is being removed with the skin and being deep fried. Then it is served with the salad sauce as well furnished with sesame and some fruits like cucumber cubes and apple cubes.
Taste: 4/5
Price: RM 28.00

Sweet & Sour Fish Fillet (酸甜鱼片) is where the fish is being deep fried and cooked with tomato sauce. We are scared off with the reddish color of the dish but when we grab a taste of it, it is kinda nice. It is served with tomato cubes as well as pineapple cubes.
Taste: 3/5
Price: RM 16.00

The roasted duck with Mar Hiang Sauce(麻香脆烧鸭) is among all which we love. The roasted duck meat is kinda tender and without the sauce, the taste is slightly salty and after added with the sauce it is really nice and delicious.
Taste: 4/5
Price: RM 16.00

Lastly, we ordered the Stir Fried Chicken Cube with Cashew Nut & Dry Chilly (宫保鸡丁) where the portion was kinda small. The taste is slightly spicy but overall the taste is still nice.

Price: RM 15.00

Orange Juice
