IPPUDO RAMEN CHAIN GROWS IN MALAYSIA WITH LAUNCH OF SECOND STORE AT THE GARDENS

December 16, 2013 by StrawberrY Gal

IPPUDO, Japan’s acclaimed ramen bistro  launched its  second Malaysian outlet  at The Gardens Mall  recently,  to  the delight of  its  loyal fans and local foodies.  The opening of this new store  occurred  a mere  nine months after IPPUDO introduced its first Malaysian outlet  at Pavilion KL  in February 2013;  and is a response to growing local demand for  good traditional ramen served in a cool, contemporary setting.  The menu  at its  new  81-seater  restaurant includesIPPUDO’s signature  tonkotsu ramen  dishes  and other  best sellers  from the  original  Pavilion  location,  as well as some new choices.

Ramen aficionados who are after something different may like to try the new vegetarian ramen  dish  that consists  of  IPPUDO’s silky  noodles  that are chilled and  complemented by crisp vegetables, tossed in a special sesame dressing.

The  launch  event,  held  on  the evening of  29 November 2013,  was officiated by  the Ambassador of Japan,  His Excellency Shigeru Nakamura;  together with  Mr. Joji Ikeshita (Managing Director of Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) KL);  Madame  Emi Kawahara (wife of IPPUDO founder and CEO Shigemi  Kawahara); and  Dato’  Rosie Tan  (Director of IPPUDO Malaysia).  It was well attended by members of the Japanese business community in Malaysia and other special guests of IPPUDO. Attendees witnessed special sake barrel breaking and “noren” (i.e. the  putting up  of  the curtain at the store entrance) ceremonies; and enjoyed a selection of signature dishes from IPPUDO’s menu.Yosuke Nishiguchi, IPPUDO emporium’s dedicated representative in Malaysia  emphasised, “At IPPUDO,

we are not just selling ramen but a unique dining  experience. We are very happy to be able to share the Japanese love of ramen with more Malaysians  through  the introduction of our second outlet  at The Gardens Mall.”

“IPPUDO translates from the Japanese as “first wind” or “first of its kind.”  Our name reflects the  philosophy of Shigemi Kawahara  –  our IPPUDO  founder and  “Ramen King”  –  “to constantly innovate to remain true”.  Till today, our  master continues to reinvent classics and redefine recipes for a dish that first emerged over 300 years ago.  True to our namesake and  our aspiration to continuously live up toour founder’s vision, IPPUDO Malaysia is excited to introduce, for the first time, a vegetarian ramen. We specially created this dish in response to the feedback we received from our valued customers for more vegetarian-friendly offerings,” added Nishiguchi.

The interior design of this latest  store at The Gardens Mall  continues to carry  the  strong stamp of IPPUDO’s signature style.  It shares  the same “Matsuri”  or “festivals” theme as IPPUDO’s  first  Malaysian outlet at Pavilion KL;  yet has its own  distinctive  identity.  A special feature of  this new location is a wall covered with Japanese manga cartoons in 3 languages  (Japanese, English and Chinese) that depict different ways of enjoying ramen.  The new outlet also has a special VIP room that customers can book for private dinners and special celebrations.
