Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur Celebrates World Chocolate Day with Sustainable, Award-Winning Malaysian Cocoa in Collaboration with Chocolate Concierge

August 13, 2024 by StrawberrY Gal

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur is taking a significant step towards sustainability through an exciting collaboration with Chocolate Concierge, a partnership that not only highlights the rich flavors of Malaysian single-origin cocoa but also reinforces the hotel’s commitment to environmental and social responsibility. This collaboration is a celebration of Malaysia’s cocoa heritage, and it aims to support local communities involved in cocoa production.

In celebration of World Chocolate Day this July, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, in partnership with Chocolate Concierge, introduced a unique chocolate experience that showcases the finest Malaysian cocoa. This initiative is not just about indulgence; it is a conscious effort to promote sustainable cocoa farming practices, thereby empowering the local communities that contribute to Malaysia’s cocoa industry.

From July 7 to August 31, 2024, the Lobby Lounge at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur invites guests to indulge in a luxurious Chocolate Afternoon Tea. Curated by Executive Sous Chef Annie Yam and her team, this special menu features artisanal treats that incorporate Malaysian single-origin cocoa. Among the varieties featured are the award-winning Semai cacao from Pahang and Chemor cacao from Perak, each delicacy on the menu tells a story of quality, sustainability, and dedication.

The Chocolate Afternoon Tea is a delightful affair, offering both savory and sweet selections. Savory highlights include the Tiger Prawn Salad with Cocoa Nib Cornet, which blends tiger prawns, apple, and pomegranate in a roasted cocoa nib cornet, and the Snow Crab Cake with Remoulade and Caviar, which perfectly balances the sweetness of crab with a tangy remoulade and luxurious caviar.

On the sweet side, guests can indulge in creations like the Dark Chocolate and Raspberry Sphere, which combines rich dark chocolate with a tangy raspberry center, crafted using 70% Semai cacao from Pahang. This chocolate is noted for its balance of tropical fruits, cashews, and red tea, making it a perfect match for the raspberry’s tartness. Another standout is the Vanilla Salted Caramel Crèmeux and Chocolate Délice, made with 70% Temuan cacao from Pahang, known for its complex notes of cardamom, cloves, red rose, walnut, and toasted coconut. The Hazelnut Praline Chocolate Feuilletine Tart, featuring 60% Chemor cacao from Perak, offers flavors of tropical fruits, toffee, and a delicate woody finish, adding depth to the dessert.

The experience is complemented by classic scones, including a Cocoa & Strawberry Scone, served with raspberry jam, whipped butter, and clotted cream. Guests can also enjoy a selection of signature hot and cold chocolate beverages, making the afternoon tea at the Lobby Lounge a truly indulgent experience. The serene ambiance, enhanced by live performances from Thursday to Saturday and on public holidays, provides the perfect backdrop for this luxurious treat.

The Chocolate Afternoon Tea set is available daily from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, priced at RM220 nett for two persons. For those who prefer to enjoy these treats at home, Shangri-La offers an exclusive Afternoon Tea set for delivery and takeaway, available for purchase online.

For those on the go, Lemon Garden 2Go offers an exclusive selection of chocolate bonbons, crafted by Chocolate Concierge. These bonbons, available in flavors like Pistachio Gianduja, Pineapple Coconut, and Coffee Banana, are elegantly packaged in gift boxes starting from RM158 nett. Additionally, Chocolate Bars made from Malaysian single-origin cocoa are available, starting from RM48 nett, ensuring exceptional quality and flavor in every bite.

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s collaboration with Chocolate Concierge is more than just a celebration of chocolate; it is a commitment to sustainability and local heritage. Every bite of these exquisite creations tells the story of Malaysia’s rich cocoa history, offering guests not just a taste of luxury but also a connection to the origins of these delicious ingredients. For dining reservations and inquiries, guests can contact the hotel directly.

This partnership is a testament to Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s dedication to creating luxurious experiences that also promote sustainability and support local communities, making every indulgence at the hotel a celebration of quality, responsibility, and Malaysian heritage.
