The Mystic Delight: An InterContinental Kuala Lumpur Mid Autumn Collection 2024

July 28, 2024 by StrawberrY Gal

As the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, InterContinental Kuala Lumpur unveils a splendid assortment of ten artisanal snow skin and baked mooncakes at Tao Chinese Cuisine, which has been recognized as the Best Muslim-Friendly Chinese Restaurant. This year, the festival is marked by three new creations crafted under the expertise of Master Dim Sum Chef Lo Tian Sion, who boasts 30 years of experience in blending cultural heritage with modern culinary innovation. The 2024 Mystic Delight Mid-Autumn Collection features two variations of festive gift boxes: the Mystic Radiance Lantern Box and the Mystic Splendour Premium Box.

The Mystic Radiance box is particularly enchanting, as it includes an LED tea light candle that transforms the box into a lantern, casting a warm, celebratory glow in your home. The Mystic Splendour Premium Box, on the other hand, comes with a tea canister of Tao’s Signature Black Tea, adding a touch of luxury to the festive experience. The lantern design on both boxes is the result of a collaboration with the Mouth & Foot Painting Artists Association (MFPA), an international for-profit association owned by differently-abled artists. The chosen artwork is an original piece by foot painter Mohd Khairuddin Bin Che Rani, reproduced with kind permission from the MFPA.

The artwork, dubbed “Strong Light,” pays homage to Chinese culture and reflects Khairuddin’s childhood experiences growing up in Kelantan with his Chinese friends and neighbors. It also draws inspiration from Chinese television shows. Despite being born without arms, Khairuddin mastered the art of brush strokes using his foot, and his work has been featured in numerous art exhibitions, including the Market Place for Creative Art showcase at the 6th World Islamic Economic Forum at the Kuala Lumpur Conference Centre. This collaboration aligns with InterContinental Kuala Lumpur’s Journey to Tomorrow commitment, which emphasizes sustainable practices and meaningful community engagement.

Matthew Everson, the General Manager, expressed the significance of this collaboration: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with MFPA and Mr. Khairuddin in developing our mooncake boxes this year. It’s an exciting opportunity to feature our differently-abled local creatives. Through partnerships like this, we aim to inspire and uplift, ensuring our efforts today contribute to a brighter tomorrow for all.” Guests can view Khairuddin’s masterpieces at a pop-up art gallery at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur’s lobby from September 1 to 7, where he will also showcase his artistic talent in a live painting session. All proceeds from the sale of his works will go to Khairuddin.

The 2024 mooncake collection features the return of last year’s highly coveted flavors, including Almond & Sweet Potato Baked Skin, Musang King Durian Snow Skin with Oats, and Butterfly Pea Flower Snow Skin with Bird’s Nest and White Lotus Paste. This year’s new flavors include Dragon Fruit Paste with Black Sesame Mochi Baked Skin, Lemon Snow Skin with Hawthorn Cherry Jelly & Green Tea Paste, and Red Safflower Snow Skin with Shredded Coconut Paste & Salted Egg Cream.

The Mystic Radiance Lantern Gift Box offers a choice of four baked mooncakes for RM218 nett or a combination of four baked or snow skin mooncakes (excluding Musang King Durian Snow Skin & Butterfly Pea Flower Snow Skin) for RM248 nett. The Mystic Splendour Premium Gift Box is available for RM298 nett and includes any four mooncakes. Á la carte mooncakes are also available, with baked skin varieties priced at RM43 to RM45 nett and snow skin varieties priced at RM47 to RM63 nett.

For those looking to make bulk purchases, special rates are available starting from RM148 nett. Guests who make significant bulk purchases can redeem a complimentary Mystical Trunk filled with a variety of Chinese treats and tea packets. The Mystic Delight collection will be available for purchase online, with options for self-pickup at the hotel lobby from August 5 to September 17, 2024, and at The Exchange TRX from August 19 to September 22, 2024. Delivery is available within Peninsular Malaysia, with snow skin mooncakes limited to the Klang Valley area. Members of IHG One Rewards, Indulge Club, and partner bank cardholders enjoy 20% off Mystic Delight Mid-Autumn Gift Boxes.

To celebrate the festival, guests can enjoy online-exclusive Early Bird prices at 25% off via the hotel’s online store from July 7 to August 4, 2024. Self-pickup and delivery for early bird purchases begin from August 5, with options available at the Hotel Lobby Mooncake Booth and The Exchange TRX. Additionally, guests stand a chance to win 5,000 IHG One Rewards points for every two Mystic Splendour boxes purchased, with lucky draw winners announced every Friday on Tao Chinese Cuisine’s Instagram page.

For a leisurely festive mid-day treat, guests can experience the Mystic Delight with the exquisite Mystic Gems Afternoon Tea at the OneSixFive Lounge from August 1 to September 17, 2024. Priced at RM238 nett, each set serves two persons and features the enchanting Lemon with Hawthorn Cherry Jelly & Green Tea Paste Snow Skin Mooncake as the centerpiece. This high tea experience includes a symphony of colors and flavors from savory tidbits like Barbeque-glazed Smoked Duck in Rye Sandwich and Pumpkin-taro Cheese Croquettes with Garlic Mayonnaise to petite desserts like Mango Compote, Jasmine Namelaka & Pomelo on a crumble base, and Raspberry-mascarpone Cream, Clementine Confit & Sunflower Seed Croquant. The set is served with plain and raisin scones, premium clotted cream, jam, marmalade, and a choice of Ronnefeldt tea blend selection, Pu’er, or Tie Guan Yin tea.

InterContinental Kuala Lumpur’s commitment to sustainable practices and community engagement is reflected in its Journey to Tomorrow initiative, and this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival offerings are a testament to this mission.
