Hokkaido Syokudo @ Publika: The taste of Hokkaido

October 23, 2018 by StrawberrY Gal

For fans of Japanese delights, I am just loving this place – Hokkido Syukudo (北海道食堂). The restaurant is one of my favorite as now we can have the fresh Japanese delights all in one goal. With the Japanese feel, the restaurant serves mostly everything from Hokkaido.

What is so special here is because the produce and cooking techniques from Japan’s northernmost prefecture. We are told that the most of the ingridients are fully imported from Japan. It is also certified by the Hokkaido Government Office as a tourism movement to create more awareness in Asean countries. There’s currently 2 branches in Singapore, 1 in Jakarta and 1 in Hong Kong.

One of the techniques which captured my attention is the Straw Roasted. And in here, they have some delicious menu which is using this technique. Ths is where straw burning provides a dramatic fierce fire with tempreatures in the range of 800 – 900 degrees and it results a fast cooking and leave your meat juicy and tender. Additionally, with the straw burning technique you will get the delicate “smoked” aroma to the cooked meats and fish.

Straw Roasted Salmon (RM 28)
I am in love with Straw Roasted Salmon. The Salmon Meat comes moist and juicy but it is enhanced with a light char taste. Unique and so good!

Straw Roasted Chicken Neck (RM 28)
Their Roasted Chicken Neck is just so good that I never realized it is actually chicken neck. The meat is so moist and juicy and with the clear hints of smokiness.

Moving next is their oysters. Their oyster is imported all the way from Akkeshi Town. In this place, their oysters are available all year long in Japan and they are grown plump and characterized by the rich flavours.  Their oysters are availbe in choices of 3 pcs (RM 68), 6 pcs (RM128) and 12 pcs (RM238). Available grill or fresh.

Kaki Age Tempura Soba (RM 24)
Indulge their imported soba which comes slurpylicious. Topped with the crunchy bites of the kaki age tempura on top. Amazingly delicious!

Warm Potato Salad with Smoked Egg (RM 16)
The delicious salad where the potatoes is all the way from Hokkaido is cook and served on your table. The potato is just simply delicious where the taste is sweet and good.

Hokkaido Styled Chicken Karaage (RM 14.80)
Hokkaido styled karaage comes amazingly delicious. The chicken is perfectly deep fried and it comes light on the batter and inside remaisn is juiciness. Every mouthful is just so addictive and I  can finish the whole plate of  it.

If you are a beef lover, do order their Special Roasted Beef (100g : RM24 | 200g: RM 43). The tender beef which is perfetctly roasted till perfection leaving you with the aromatic bites.

The Beef Tougue Miso is perfectly marinated and cooked till perfection. It is so juicy and every mouthful comes simply good and delicious. Using the technique of Robatayaki which is the charcoal grill technique, one can have the best flavours and get the right taste of it.

Stir Fried Salmon Miso Vegetables (RM 28)
The Stir Fried Salmon Miso Vegetables (RM 28) is another must try here. This classic local dish from Hokkaido comes deliciously good where the juicy salmon is served with the veggies and tossed together with miso sauce on the hot plate.

And being in a Japanese restaurant, sushi is another must order food here. We had their signature Hokkaido Special Roll Sushi (RM 38.80). The sushi is so good with the generous top of sliced tuna , and tobiko. Amazingly delicious!

Overall, Hokkido Syukudo (北海道食堂) is worth to visit with their quality food at affordable price.
