TANYU @ 1 Utama: Elevating Grilled Fish to a Culinary Art Form in Malaysia

March 26, 2025 by StrawberrY Gal

TANYU, the celebrated grilled fish brand from China, has quickly become a sensation in Malaysia since its debut in 2023. With outlets in major shopping destinations such as Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, One Utama, and Sunway Pyramid, TANYU is on a mission to redefine local dining experiences with its innovative approach to traditional grilled fish. Known for its signature flavor, Grilled Fish with Fresh Green Pepper, TANYU offers a dynamic menu featuring eight distinct flavor profiles—from the classic seven ingredients to innovative twists like soy sauce & garlicky—and now introduces Malaysia’s first-ever Crispy Grilled Fish

Signature Dishes That Ignite the Senses

At the heart of TANYU’s offerings is its Crispy Grilled Fish with Fresh Green Pepper (鲜青椒脆皮烤鱼). Imagine succulent fish with a perfectly crispy, golden skin that yields to tender, moist flesh inside. The dish is elevated by fresh green peppers, which are lightly stir-fried to retain their natural sweetness and crisp texture, adding a delightful crunch that contrasts with the tender fish. The dish’s secret lies in its perfectly balanced glaze—a vibrant mix that brings out the smoky char of the grill while infusing the dish with a hint of spice and a refreshing burst of freshness.

Next up is the innovative Sauerkraut Fish (酸菜鱼), which takes the traditional grilled fish concept to new heights. In this dish, the fish is prepared with a tangy twist as it is stewed with sauerkraut, lending a pleasantly sour note that cuts through the richness of the fish. The fermentation of the cabbage introduces a bold, complex flavor profile, making each bite an exciting fusion of savory and tangy sensations that celebrate both innovation and tradition.

To complement these main attractions, TANYU also serves its Traditional Beancurd (探鱼鲜豆花). This dish features soft, silky tofu that is either grilled to perfection or served as a cool, creamy side, providing a delicate contrast to the robust flavors of the grilled fish. It’s an understated yet essential element that highlights TANYU’s commitment to balance and texture.

A refreshing counterpoint to the richer dishes is the Cucumber with Minced Garlic (蒜泥青瓜). Crisp, freshly sliced cucumbers are tossed in a zesty garlic dressing, offering a clean, invigorating crunch that refreshes the palate and complements the spicy and savory flavors of the main courses.

For those craving a bit of heat and bold spice, the Sichuan Spicy Chicken (川香辣子鸡) delivers exactly that. Tender chicken pieces are marinated in a blend of Sichuan pepper and aromatic spices, resulting in a dish that is fiery yet balanced by a slightly sweet glaze, ensuring a mouth-tingling experience that awakens the senses.

Not to be outdone, the Crispy Pork with Sichuan Pepper (椒香小酥肉) combines the irresistible crunch of deep-fried pork with the distinctive, numbing spice of Sichuan pepper. Each bite offers a rich interplay of textures—crispy on the outside and tender on the inside—making it a perfect companion to the lighter seafood and vegetable offerings.

The menu also features the Double Taste Rice Cake (鸳鸯糍粑), a unique creation that offers dual flavor profiles in one bite. This dish is a delightful fusion where traditional glutinous rice cakes are served with two complementary sauces, delivering a surprising mix of sweet and savory notes that capture the essence of innovative Malaysian cuisine

Rounding off the meal is the Jumbo Limbo & Lime Drink (嚣张冰桔桶), a refreshing beverage that perfectly balances the zesty tang of lime with a subtle sweetness. Served chilled, this drink is designed to cleanse the palate and refresh the senses, making it the ideal companion to a hearty, flavorful meal.

TANYU’s arrival in Malaysia is a testament to the evolving culinary landscape where innovation meets tradition. By introducing a diverse range of flavors and cooking methods, TANYU not only stays true to its roots but also caters to the dynamic tastes of modern Malaysian diners. Whether you are a devoted fan of classic grilled fish or an adventurous foodie eager to try something new, TANYU promises an unforgettable dining experience that’s both authentic and revolutionary.

For more information and to locate the nearest outlet, visit TANYU’s social media pages or check out their website. With its blend of heritage, innovation, and community spirit, TANYU is set to become a culinary landmark in Malaysia.
