HKTB Presents the New Year Countdown Fireworks Display Themed “The Symphony of Happiness” Featuring the Latest Spectacular Effects Welcoming 2025

December 21, 2024 by StrawberrY Gal

On New Year’s Eve, 31 December 2024, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will continue its tradition with the much-anticipated, largest New Year Countdown Fireworks Celebration in Hong Kong. The 12-minute extravaganza will usher in the New Year with both locals and visitors throughout the city.

Spanning 1,300 metres, the New Year Countdown Fireworks Display will extend from Central to North Point on Hong Kong Island, and from West Kowloon to the East Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade on the Kowloon Peninsula, with eight recommended vantage points. Visitors can marvel at the fireworks extravaganza from both sides of Victoria Harbour. Five barges and 16 pontoons will be arranged in two layers, front and back, to launch fireworks from different heights and angles. The display will also feature rooftop pyrotechnics from three iconic buildings on Hong Kong Island, creating a rhythmic and dynamic composition of fireworks and a sensory feast of sight and sound for spectators.

Nature-Inspired Fireworks to Convey Wishes for a Beautiful Life

The fireworks choreography was designed by Mr. Liu Lin, Chief of the Fireworks Project and Director of Fireworks Operations at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies. “The Symphony of Happiness” will deliver the blessings of life by interpreting diverse forms of nature, including flourishing tree, an ever-changing waterfall, and shining iridescent clouds.

Spectacular Effects of “The Propitious Clouds” and “Blooming Blossoms” to Take the Spotlight

The Fireworks Display will reveal stunning effects, including “The Propitious Clouds” – the first-ever showcase in Hong Kong that presents rainbow-coloured smoke against silver fireworks. The red, green, yellow, blue, purple and orange smoke will all be illuminated by silver fireworks, providing a unique nighttime viewing experience.

Another highlight effect, “Blooming Blossoms”, feature five layers of fireworks with specially formulated colours, such as sky blue, pink, lemon yellow and orange. These layers of fireworks will be launched at different heights simultaneously, creating a vibrant, multi-layered display that represents a beautiful home.

“Shooting Stars” to Be Launched from HK Island Landmarks and a Giant Countdown Clock to Be Displayed on the HKCEC

In addition to the fireworks extravaganza, four series of “Shooting Stars” will be launched every 15 minutes from three landmark buildings on Hong Kong Island, starting at 11pm. The pyrotechnics symbolise love, health, happiness and wealth, welcoming all spectators to make New Year wishes together. A giant countdown clock displayed on the wall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre will allow spectators to count down to midnight together, bringing the excitement to a climax.

The Firework Display will be broadcast live on Hong Kong’s free television channels and HKTB’s official website and social media channels. HKTB will also broadcast the event globally by satellite to ring in the New Year with audiences overseas, showcasing the unique charm of Hong Kong.
