OMI Melbourne: A Wagyu Haven of Culinary Excellence | Pavilion Damansara Heights

November 7, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

In the realm of gourmet dining, OMI stands as an unassuming yet brilliant gem, nestled in the heart of Melbourne. This unpretentious restaurant has carved a niche for itself as the ultimate haven for aficionados of Wagyu perfection. OMI has consistently delighted discerning palates over the years with its exquisite yet affordably priced Wagyu rice bowls, and our recent culinary sojourn to this unassuming oasis was nothing short of extraordinary.

OMI’s success is anchored in its unwavering dedication to quality, particularly in sourcing the finest Wagyu beef from select local suppliers across Australia. This steadfast commitment to using the freshest, premium produce ensures that each and every morsel served at OMI embodies the rich agricultural heritage of Australia. Such devotion to culinary excellence has not gone unnoticed, with OMI being the proud recipient of several esteemed accolades, including the coveted “Best Japanese Restaurant in 2020” by The Age, the Australian Good Food Guide, and the Australian Enterprise Award in 2023. These accolades are not merely a testament to their commitment but a testament to the excellence that has become synonymous with OMI.

An Ambiance of Elegance

Stepping into OMI, we were greeted by an ambiance that was understated yet inviting. The restaurant’s minimalist decor allowed the gastronomic creations to take center stage, creating an environment that was perfectly poised to guide our senses through a remarkable culinary journey. While the menu offered a myriad of tempting selections, it was the main attractions that truly captured our attention. The joy of selection was elevated by the array of sauces on offer, each one boasting its own unique character, including Truffle Mayo, Salted Egg, Black Truffle, Mentaiko, Signature Teriyaki, Spicy Mayo, Sambal, Black Pepper, and Singapore Chilli Crab Sauce.

FOOD

Aburi Salmon Rice Bowl

Our culinary journey at OMI Malaysia reached its zenith with the Aburi Salmon Rice Bowl, a dish that proved to be an absolute sensation. This gastronomic masterpiece was exceptional in every way, and its exceptional flavor profile left an indelible mark on our taste buds. The perfectly executed dish featured Aburi Salmon that was cooked to a medium-rare perfection, ensuring a mouthwatering and tender experience with each and every bite. The balance of textures and flavors in this dish was simply divine, making it an unforgettable culinary delight.

What elevated this dish to a level of sheer perfection was the addition of OMI’s Signature Singapore Chili Crab Sauce. This heavenly sauce, with its tantalizing blend of sweet, savory, and spicy notes, was the perfect accompaniment to the luscious Aburi Salmon. The inclusion of an onsen egg further elevated the Aburi Salmon Rice Bowl to a level of culinary artistry that transcended expectations. The creamy and velvety onsen egg added a luxurious and indulgent dimension to the dish

Tempura Prawn Udon Bowl

The Tempura Prawn Udon Bowl at OMI Malaysia is undoubtedly another standout dish that left an indelible mark on our culinary journey. This delectable creation struck a perfect balance between the freshness of the prawns and the art of tempura frying.  With each bite, the crispy exterior gave way to the juicy and tender prawn within, creating a symphony of textures and flavors that made this dish an absolute delight. And when it is served together with the  bowl of hot and slurpy udon noodles, it brings us a truly satisfying meal.

Torched Tofu

The Torched Tofu at OMI Malaysia offered a delightful contrast to the bold and savory flavors of other dishes we sampled during our visit. The flavors were well-balanced, with just the right amount of acidity and savory notes

Hojicha Cheesecake

The perfect conclusion to our delightful meal at OMI Malaysia was the indulgence of their exquisite cheesecake. OMI offers a choice of flavors, including the classic original, matcha, and the one we couldn’t resist – hojicha cheesecake.

The hojicha cheesecake at OMI was a true revelation. With each forkful, we experienced the velvety texture that is the hallmark of a well-made cheesecake. The creaminess was exceptionally satisfying, creating a smooth and luxurious mouthfeel that we relished with each bite. The hint of hojicha elevated the cheesecake to new heights, making it an absolute must-try for those who appreciate innovative and harmonious flavor combinations.

For those who are looking for a delightful meal in Pavilion Damansara Heights, OMI is definitely the place to visit.
