Yuan Room @ 1 Utama: Where Tradition Meets Contemporary Chinese Cuisine in Kuala Lumpur

October 18, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

Set against the bustling backdrop of the 1 Utama shopping mall, the Yuan Room emerges like a lotus in a pond, symbolic of purity amidst urban chaos. This establishment seamlessly weaves the splendors of traditional Chinese grandeur with chic, contemporary flair. Gazing upon its façade, adorned with patterns reminiscent of ancient Chinese coins, evokes a sense of anticipation for the culinary odyssey that lies within.

The Yuan Room boasts of impeccable design and layout – with two exquisite private rooms for those seeking an intimate dining experience. Guests can opt to be enveloped in the plush comforts of the indoor setting or bask under the stars in the alfresco area.

The Food

Upon entering Yuan Room, the first thing that strikes you is not just the opulence of the ambiance, but the sheer variety on offer. From the subtle and delicate to the bold and flavorful, the menu reads like a love letter to dim sum enthusiasts. With a vast array of options ranging from traditional favorites to modern interpretations, Yuan Room ensures there’s something for every palate, from the dim sum connoisseur to the adventurous newbie.

XO Chives Dumpling with XO Sauce

This delicacy heralds the richness of the sea. Filled with juicy chunks of marine treasures, each bite is a burst of umami, further heightened by the piquant undertones of the XO sauce.

Crispy Mini Char Siew Bun

A delightful reinterpretation of a classic, the crispy exterior harmoniously contrasts the moist and flavorful char siew filling, making it an unforgettable experience.

Siew Mai

One of the classics in Yuan Room and these are the much loved classic.  While, for the ginger & century egg variant introduces a novel dimension to this much-loved classic, appealing to both traditionalists and adventurers.

Portuguese Egg Tart

We love the buttery crust with the soft custard results in a treat that melts in the mouth. Not just that, the custard egg is awesomely good as well.

“Dang Ying” Red Pumpkin Ball with Banana

This creation challenges conventions and emerges triumphant. The saccharine notes of red beans paired with the creaminess of bananas, housed within a crispy pumpkin ball

Crispy Cheong Fan

One can enjoy the  translucent cheong fan with the crispy yao char kuai, it delivers a sensory delight, both in terms of taste and texture.

Peanut Lava Cake

A spectacle for the senses, the oozing peanut lava is a theatrical delight, both in presentation and taste, ensuring it’s not just a treat for the palate but also for the eyes.

Bird’s Nest Lemongrass Infusion with Basil Seeds and Mixed Fruits

A nod to the timeless Chinese culinary tradition, this luxurious concoction embodies opulence, with the bird’s nest offering rejuvenating properties, counterbalanced by the zest of mixed fruits.

Overall, Yuan Room promises an immersive experience that tantalizes the senses and celebrates the rich tapestry of Chinese culinary traditions, while seamlessly incorporating contemporary twists.
