MILO® Hosts First and Largest Surf Skate Championship and 2-Day Family Fun Fair

September 23, 2023 by StrawberrY Gal

Over the Malaysia Day weekend, MILO® celebrated with Malaysians in its two-day Family Fun Fair and its first and largest Surf Skate Championship at Putrajaya Challenge Park. This exemplifies MILO®’s unwavering dedication to championing sports and wellness through its #MalaysiaBolehBersamaMILO campaign, which has made a significant impact within the surf skate industry in Malaysia.

MILO® has always been an enabler in sports and wellness, committed to unlocking the potential of Malaysians and fueling them with the energy to go further, try new things, and create new breakthroughs. This year, MILO® brought together a community of surf skaters by hosting its first and largest Surf Skate Championship in partnership with Wavvy Hub Surf Skate Club. The event received a large turnout of passionate surf skate individuals who travelled from across the country and the Asia Pacific region to compete in the two-day event. Participants were filled with energy and enthusiasm as they showcased their unique surf skate skills and techniques until the final stage.

The Surf Skate Championship had a total prize pool worth over RM40,000, divided into four categories: Men’s and Women’s Open (Cup), Men’s and Women’s Open (Plate), Men’s and Women’s Open (Cup), Kids, and Special Categories. The grand prize winners, Muhamad Nor Afiq Haikal and Faye Tan from Malaysia, of the Men’s and Women’s Open (Cup) category walked away with RM3,000 cash prize each and other sponsor merchandise such as one year of free entry to Wavvy Hub, one ticket to a 3D2N Surf Perhentian, one complete set of YOW Performance Board, an RM500 Rip Curl Cash Voucher, and a one-year ambassador contract with Chillax (Cariuma) with two pairs of Cariuma.

While champions of the Men’s and Women’s Open (Plate) Sorrawit Jinyong from Thailand and Cmylia Lai from Malaysia brought home RM400 worth of Rip Curl cash vouchers and other sponsor prizes.

Meanwhile, the champion of the Kids Category, Mohd Irfan Naufal bin Kasa from Malaysia, walked home with a complete set of YOW Board, 3 months FREE Park Entry to Wavvy Hub, and a RM 200 Rip Curl Voucher. The winners of the Special Categories, including Best Flow, Best Newcomer, and Best Wipeout, Sorrawit Jinyong from Thailand, Kimi Lim from Malaysia, and Strala from Singapore each received YOW Surf Wheels, YOW Surf Deck, and a Safety Helmet, respectively.

Present on the day was Ng Su Yen, Business Executive Officer of MILO®, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, who expressed, “We at MILO® believe in learning through sports, which is a crucial step for children during early development. Whether it’s surf skating, badminton, football, or any grassroots sport, these activities nurture skills, perseverance, and self-confidence, which will eventually translate into values like communication, teamwork, and responsibility. We’re grateful for the overwhelming support from the surf skate community, partners, sponsors and attendees who have made this event a huge success. Reflecting on MILO®’s journey in Malaysia, the ‘Malaysia Boleh’ slogan was first coined in 1992 in support of the 1993 SEA Games. This slogan still resonates strongly today as a symbol of our unity as Malaysians, and I hope this motivates us to continuously strive for excellence and leave a mark in history. Jom #MalaysiaBolehBersamaMILO.”

Aside from the Surf Skate Championship, there were numerous fun-filled engagement activities, lucky draws and performances for the public, organised by MILO® and their sponsors. Nestlé Harvest Gourmet, Nestlé Ice Cream, LlaoLlao, and Tealive were among the other brands that were also present at the MILO® Malaysia Day Fun Fair, offering limited edition “MILO® Specials” and MILO® themed food menus.

The famous MILO® Goodness Truck also made an appearance at the event, bringing its immersive 360 ̊experience for the public to experience the process of how MILO® is made on a whole new level.

Additionally, MILO® trucks were also spotted at the location giving out free cups of MILO®. The two-day event received such an enthusiastic response from the public that MILO® remains positive and committed to organising many more sports and wellness events in the near future for the youth and sports community. This is a move by the brand to continuously empower the nation to stay active and pursue their passions.
