Hyatt Regency and Andaz Bali Announce Appointment of The New Executive Chefs

September 23, 2022 by StrawberrY Gal

Two of Hyatt properties in Bali are delighted to announce the appointment of new Executive Chefs as of September 2022: Chef Arbi Saputra for Hyatt Regency Bali and Chef Benjamin Haselbeck for Andaz Bali.

Chef Arbi began his culinary career more than 10 years ago, starting off in the Netherlands and moving through Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Seychelles, Kenya and Egypt before returning to United Arab Emirates. He returned home in 2018 and retreated to the “Island of the Gods”, where he started working in Montigo Resorts as an Executive Sous Chef before joining Hyatt Regency Bali as part of the pre-opening team. “I am fortunate to have been supported and mentored by Executive Chef Stefan Zijta and Nadine Waechter-Moreno, one of the few female chefs in Hyatt, and to be given the opportunity to explore a variety of cuisines,” says the West Kalimantan native.

Chef Arbi enjoys spending time with his work family. “What separates a good and great chef is his team and I am lucky to have strong support from my team mates,” says Chef Arbi.

The same spirit is shared by Chef Benjamin Haselbeck, a German native whose career spans over 15 years with Hyatt. “Bali is blessed with an abundance of great talent. At Andaz Bali, our team comes from a variety of backgrounds and I am happy to be part of this diverse family,” said Chef Ben.

Chef Ben began his Hyatt journey at Grand Hyatt Berlin, through Park Hyatt Zurich, Andaz Amsterdam before working his way up to Chef de Cuisine back at Grand Hyatt Berlin in 2014. He moved to Park Hyatt Seoul in 2017 in the same position and then continued on as Executive Sous Chef at Grand Hyatt Tokyo 2019 before joining Andaz Bali in 2021. Chef Ben has enjoyed the transition from the bustling cities of Seoul and Tokyo to Bali. “Bali has a wonderful aura and a different pace than the big cities,” he says. “It’s a welcoming change from the city hotel to a small Island, there’s more time for the guest and the team and you spend less time in the office. This sparks my creativity and gives me more time to try new things with the team and our suppliers.”

His new role in Andaz Bali will include overseeing Village Square (Wok Wok, Blue Oven, Deli and Bakery and the newly opened Fire Fox) and Fisherman’s Club.
