A Whole Latte Love: Crazy Facts and Must-Try Coffees To Celebrate International Coffee Day

September 28, 2022 by StrawberrY Gal

October 1 is International Coffee Day, and we are celebrating with the most brew-tiful beverages known to humankind (in our opinion)! Whether French Press, cold brew, or cafè latte, drinking a good cup of coffee is an essential and satisfying way to start the day.

Even if you’re an avid coffee lover, you might not know some of these fun coffee facts. Here are  some coffee trivia and recommendations to caffeinate your day!

#1 CO2 Coffee Bar is the first coffee bar in Malaysia

Jazz up your caffeine hit with CO2 Coffee Bar, which serves up nuanced coffee cocktails, or cofftails as they call them, with a fun mix of caffeine, fruits, smoky spices and herbs. We recommend the Young-Man-Go, a blend of cold brew coffee with condensed milk and lemon juice, topped with rosemary and fresh mango — it is an incredibly refreshing pick-me-up that will leave you coming back for more!

#2 Roasting is what turns coffee brown

The method and length of roasting give coffee beans their distinctive flavour and colour—the darker beans are considered bolder, and the lighter beans are more intensely flavoured.

Artelier Coffee is a must-try for coffee lovers! Japanese master barista and coffee consultant Masahiro Aoki heads the brand and taps on his world-class skills to create expertly crafted drinks that will mocha you crazy!

Pouring hot, flavourful espresso over extremely cold milk – a cup of dirty was made! Artelier Coffee comes up with different ‘Dirty’ specialty coffee every month like Dirty (Latte), Dirty Houjicha, Dirty Matcha and more. Be sure to try out their Dirty Mocha, exclusively available in October.

#3 Coffee makes us more impulsive

Did you know one study found those who drank caffeinated drinks immediately before shopping bought more items and often spent more money? Add this interesting fact to your TIL (Today I Learned) list!

To combat impulsive purchases, why not enjoy your cuppa after shopping? Explore the nooks and crannies of Bukit Jalil Tsutaya Books, and cosy up with your book of choice at their in-store café. Check out their selection of freshly brewed coffees that can be paired with their Autumn Special Mont Blanc Dorayaki – a Japanese pancake filled with sweetened chestnut cream.

#4 Coffee has scores too

While browsing for your perfect cup of coffee, you may have noticed a ‘Coffee Review’ graphic with a numeric score. It is one of the leading coffee guides in the world by coffee sommeliers that aims to review coffees with the same level of precision and comprehensiveness as wine.

HWC Coffee has recently unveiled a new seasonal specialty coffee bean, NEROLI, which scored 93 points under the Coffee Review. This makes it the highest-rated coffee bean carried by HWC Coffee! If you are a fan of honey and floral notes, with tart fruit notes and rich aromatic woody undertones, this coffee is for you!

#5 Coffee flavour profiles are customisable

Led by the third generation in this family business, Italian-founded illy Caffè is renowned around the world and recognised for the high quality and velvety taste of its coffee, a blend made of nine varieties of pure Arabica that delights millions of people everyday at home, in the office, in hotels, restaurants and coffee shops.

Built on a world of experience, taste, science and art, the glorious illycrema is a remarkable take on illy’s espresso that is whipped and cooled to create a creamy, rich and indulgent coffee treat! Give it a try now; better latte than never!

#6 ‘Dalgona Coffee’ search increased by 1800% in 2020!

In early 2020, almost everyone was in their kitchen putting their forearms to good use to whip up a ‘Dalgona Coffee’. The drink became a worldwide trend, with searches for Dalgona Coffee surging by 1800% in mid-March 2020!

If you’re craving Dalgona Coffee but hoping to avoid the trouble of whipping it up from scratch, head over to Oppa Toast! Be sure to pair your coffee with their delicious sandwiches with flavours like shrimp and avocado, teriyaki BBQ, crispy chicken cheese, and more.

Location: Oppa Toast, Level 5 (Pink Zone), Pavilion Bukit Jalil

#7 There are close to 30,000 Starbucks stores worldwide

Did you know that Starbucks opens an average of two stores per day?  In fact, the international coffee giant has more than 29,900 locations around the globe!

Espresso your love for Starbucks coffee with their all-new Iced Shaken Espresso beverages! We love their Chocolate Malt Oat Milk Iced Shaken Espresso, featuring a harmonious mix of espresso, mocha sauce and chocolate malt powder, topped with creamy oat milk!

Location: Starbucks, Level 3 (Orange Zone), Pavilion Bukit Jalil

#8 Cold brew originated from Kyoto, Japan

The history of cold brew started in Japan and over the years, cold brew coffee has skyrocketed in popularity amongst coffeeholics. The best part of it is there is no bitterness, sourness, or diluted flavour. It has a smooth and sweet taste, which makes it a popular item on the menu.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf offers amazing cold brew, with a premium blend of Bali Blue Moon and Ethiopia Yirgacheffe coffee with chicory steeped cold for 20 hours for rich, vibrant flavours. A heavenly sip of caffeine!

#9 Coffee and butter are a splendid coffee combination

Why would anyone want to mix butter with their coffee? In Western countries, butter coffee is a staple for most coffeeholics. It’s usually a great way to kick-off your mornings as the caffeine mixes with the oils and the fats from the butter to provide the drinker with slow-release energy throughout the course of the day.

For those of you adventurous enough to try this unique coffee specialty, you can find it readily available at ZUS Coffee! Just ask for the ZUS Keto Black and get ready to enjoy a wonderful

pick-me-up at the start of your day.
