Tsutaya Books opens at Pavilion Bukit Jalil

July 11, 2022 by StrawberrY Gal

The  BUKIT JALIL TSUTAYA BOOKS at Pavilion Bukit Jalil marks the first store in Southeast Asia for Japan’s largest bookstore chain. Spanning 31,000 sq.ft, this single-storey bookstore is home to over 240,000 specially curated books, stationary and decorative goods.

The Grand Opening Ceremony was officiated by His Excellency Ambassador Katsuhiko Takahashi – Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia (centre) with Madam Mami Takahashi (kimono on left), and Puan Sri Cindy Lim – Executive Director of Malton Berhad (in pink on right). Accompanied by (left to right) Mr. Hideyuki Uemoto, CEO of Tsutaya Books Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Mr. Shigeya Kusano – President & CEO for Asia & Oceania Pacific and Managing Director of Sojitz Asia Pte. Ltd., Mr. Tomohiro Umetani – Global Business Company Director of Culture Convenience Club, Datuk Lee Whay Hoong – Director of Regal Path Sdn. Bhd., Dato’ Joyce Yap – CEO of Retail, Kuala Lumpur Pavilion Sdn. Bhd., and Mr. Gan Vi King – Director of Premier Style Trading Sdn. Bhd.

“Celebrating the grand opening of BUKIT JALIL TSUTAYA BOOKS – the first TSUTAYA BOOKS in Southeast Asia and the fifth TSUTAYA BOOKS in the world outside of Japan – is a culmination of a long journey,” said Mr Gan Vi King, Director of Premier Style Trading Sdn. Bhd., at the auspicious Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

He went on to add, “This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Look-East Policy and the 65th anniversary of Malaysian-Japanese bilateral relations, making the launch of BUKIT JALIL TSUTAYA BOOKS even more significant.”

“For over 39 years, our vision for TSUTAYA BOOKS has been to promote reading, writing, and cultural awareness as tools to create and cultivate an enriched lifestyle,” remarked Mr Hideyuki Uemoto, CEO of Tsutaya Books Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.

“We selected Malaysia for our first TSUTAYA BOOKS store in Southeast Asia because of the country’s projected growth for the future and the population’s strong interest in lifestyle and culture. Pavilion Bukit Jalil was the ideal location for our first store due to the family-centric community within Bukit Jalil and its nearby catchment,” he further explained.

BUKIT JALIL TSUTAYA BOOKS showcases the largest children’s edutainment selection of any bookstore in Malaysia, with over 20,000 children’s books in English, Japanese, Bahasa Melayu, Traditional and Simplified Chinese. Anchoring this section is the golden verdant glow of the treehouse-inspired Learning Room – where children can sit and have their parents read books to them or play with toys to encourage cognitive development, as well as bonding.

Further catering to the community is the bookstore’s in-house café – modeled after the popular and common ‘share lounge’ in Japan, where guests can pull up a chair to do work while sipping on freshly brewed coffee, Kyoto matcha and artisanal desserts like their signature Dorayaki and Fruit Parfait.

A space of productivity and  ingenuity that seats around 90 guests, as well as a place to escape the stresses of the real world and immerse in a good book.

OPENING SPECIALS

In conjunction with the launch, guests who spend RM500 and above in a single receipt will be gifted with a handcrafted paper-cutting artwork by Hans the Craftsman (while stocks last). Those who spend RM100 and above can choose between a complimentary freshly brewed Americano or Homemade Lemonade from the bookstore’s in-house modern Japanese café (valid until 10th July).

Shoppers will also be treated to a collectible bookmark designed by featured local artist of the month, Humana, with every book purchase. The bookstore is also rewarding customers with a limited edition eco-friendly BUKIT JALIL TSUTAYA BOOKS tote bag with any book purchase..

Adjoining the bookstore is Ainz & Tulpe, a Japanese beauty and personal care store, further enhancing the lifestyle experience that TSUTAYA BOOKS strives to deliver with every store.

BUKIT JALIL TSUTAYA BOOKS is located at Lot 2.89.00, Level 2 (Orange Zone), Pavilion Bukit Jalil and is open 10am to 10pm daily, Mondays to Sunday (7 days).
