Afternoon Tea @ Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang

March 8, 2020 by StrawberrY Gal

It is always a pleasure enjoying a delicious afternoon tea at the E&O Hotel. It is one of the hotels which is famed for their afternoon tea. And this time, we are fortunate to enjoy the awesome delicious afternoon tea that bring not just great meal but also a great family bonding.

The Tradition of the Afternoon Tea was invented by Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford ( 1783- 1857) and HM Queen Victoria’s Ladies in waiting. In her day the upper echelon of English Society ate a huge breakfast, very little lunch and a very late dinner.

One afternoon, she instructed her servants to serve tea with little cakes in her boudoir. The experience was so delightful that Anna repeated it every afternoon thereafter. Soon, others followed the Duchess’ lead and in just a few decades the custom of “taking tea” in the afternoon become well established. And this practice was limited to the upper echelon of English Society. However, it became so popular that the teashops and tearooms began opening for the enjoyment of the general public. So, in keeping with this English tradition, the Eastern & Oriental, Penang proudly presents to you a Traditional English Afternoon Tea.

One can enjoy the Finger Sandwiches which includes the Smoked Salmon Tartare Sandwiches, Crab Meat Slaw Sandwich, Corn Fed Chicken Ragout, Marinated Tuna Flakes Sandwich, Organic Spinach Quiche and the Cucumber, Dill and Cream Cheese Sandwich. Each of these petite sandwiches comes amazingly good and delicious.

Asides from the sandwich, must try includes the Scones. I am loving every mouthful of the scones which brings you with the soft and creamy bites. Each mouthful is so good that I cant believe I finish all the scones.

Moving to the sweet delights, we enjoyed the deliciously prepared cake and tea pastries which includes the opera cake, red velvet cake, fruit cake, fruit tartlet and the millefeuille. Each of it is beautifully presented in the petite size and every mouthful is such an indulgence.

One can enjoy the afternoon tea together with your choice of tea. The selections include Chai, English Breakfast, Genmaicha, Orange Passion Fruit, Chamomile, and many more.

For those who would love to enjoy your afternoon tea with a champagne, you can top up to enjoy the free flow champagne too.
